Minimum spouting velocity in multiple spouted beds
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1994AbstractStudies have been carried out in multiple spouted beds having 2, 3 and 4 spout cells; different fluid inlet orifices and different solids have been used with air and water as spouting fluids. The minimum spouting velocities are measured for different bed depths.

Minimum spouting velocity of conical spouted beds
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1997AbstractExisting correlations for predicting minimum spouting velocity in conical spouted beds have been found to give poor agreement with available literature data. A new correlation has been developed based on literature data to give much better prediction of the minimum spouting velocity for both small and pilot‐scale conical‐spouted beds.

Spouted bed and microwave-assisted spouted bed drying of parboiled wheat
Food and Bioproducts Processing, 2012Abstract The effect of spouted bed and microwave-assisted spouted bed drying on drying rates of parboiled wheat was investigated. In addition, the effective moisture diffusivities of parboiled wheat were calculated. The drying experiments were performed using 200 g of parboiled wheat, at three different air temperatures (50, 70, 90 °C) and at two ...

Local Bed Voidage in Spouted Beds
Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research, 2000The effect of operating conditions (base angle, gas inlet diameter, stagnant bed height, particle diameter, and gas velocity) on longitudinal and radial profiles of bed voidage has been studied in the spout, annulus, and both the fountain core and periphery of spouted beds, by means of an optical fiber probe.

Experimental investigation of spout incoherence in a spouted bed
Chemical Engineering Journal, 2021Abstract Spout incoherence is a typical instability phenomenon in spouted beds, in which the particles in the spout region move upward as groups, leading to poor spouting stability and efficiency. In this paper, the moving particle blockage in the spout region is measured to quantify the spout incoherence for the first time, by means of depicting the

Combustion and Flame, 1978
Abstract The use of spouted beds for burning poor fuels is explored both experimentally and theoretically, following previous work on burners with massive enthalpy recirculation. The spout passes through the combustion zone and becomes part of a toroidal vortex of the bed material which acts as an effective mobile heat exchanger between hot products ...

Spout deflection in spouted beds and countermeasures: A review
Powder Technology, 2021Abstract Spouted beds operation quality and stability often suffer from spout deflection, which means the spout channel shows a lateral movement instead of vertical spouting. A comprehensive review about spout deflection in spouted beds has not been reported yet.

The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1962
AbstractThe first commercial spouted bed driers have been installed in Canada and one has been used to dry three types of peas, lentils and flax. The data obtained from this drier have been compared and correlated with previous drying studies in various laboratory spouted bed driers.

Spout diameters in full and half spouted beds
The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, 1998AbstractA fiber optic probe has been used to measure spout diameters in a half‐column and a full‐column based on the significantly higher counts of output electric pulses in the spout region than in the annulus. The flat wall of a semi‐cylindrical spouted bed column was found to cause considerable distortion of spout shapes which became approximately ...

Prediction of minimum spouting velocity in spouted bed
Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2009AbstractMinimum spouting velocity was measured using different bed heights with six different particles. A statistical analysis of the reported correlations for minimum spouting velocity based on the present and literature data was made and the estimated.
