The effect of low doses of cadmium and zinc chloride on the Blood-Testis Barrier of Sprague Dawley rats [PDF]
Background: Cadmium chloride is an environmental toxic that affects the male reproductive system. This study was directed 1) to evaluate whether long-term oral exposures to low doses of Cd in rats causes morphological changes, 2) the immunohistochemical TJ and AJ protein expression; and 3) to evidence that zinc exposure can modify Cd effects.

Genetic (G) and environmental (E) manipulations are known to alter behavioural outcomes in rodents, however many animal models of neuropsychiatric disorders only use a restricted selection of strain and housing conditions.

Polyorchidism in a young Sprague-Dawley rat
Duplicate testes lined in series were observed in the right scrotum of a 6-week-old Sprague-Dawley rat in a single-dose toxicity study. Of the two right testicles, one was spherical and less than half the size of a normal testis. The other was oval-shaped, slightly smaller than a normal testis, and possessed clear, tortuous blood vessels similar to ...

Progestin drugs are loaded into a mesoporous silicon dioxide host by melt‐infiltration. Drugs that decompose at or close to their melting point can be loaded by the addition of cholesterol, which acts as a melting point suppressor. High mass loading of the drug is achieved, and dissolution of the composite is controlled by the nanoscale properties of ...

Lack of appropriate controls leads to mistaking absence seizures for post-traumatic epilepsy [PDF]
Here we provide a thorough discussion of a rebuttal by D'Ambrosio et al to a study conducted by Rodgers et al. (Rodgers KM, Dudek FE, Barth DS (2015) Progressive, Seizure-Like, Spike- Wave Discharges Are Common in Both Injured and Uninjured Sprague-Dawley Rats: Implications for the Fluid Percussion Injury Model of Post-Traumatic Epilepsy.

The covalent binding of dexamethasone to the surface of polyimide represents the electrically inert part of implantable intraneural devices. This ensures a sustained release of the drug for 9 weeks. In vitro and in vivo tests confirm the reduction of the foreign body reactions and the improved biocompatibility of dexamethasone functionalized polyimide.

Fatty acid synthase and adipsin mRNA levels in obese and lean JCR:LA-cp rats: effect of diet.
In Sprague-Dawley rats, fatty acid synthase (FAS) activity is suppressed by dietary fat. To test the hypothesis that a defect in regulation of de novo fatty acid synthesis exists in massive obesity, we investigated the effect of diet on FAS mRNA levels ...

Comparison of the effects of two anesthetics, isoflurane and urethane, on bladder function in rats
We compared the effects of two anesthetics, isoflurane and urethane on bladder function in rats. Arterial pressure, cystometry (CMG), and rhythmic bladder contractions (RBCs) under isovolumetric conditions, mechanosensitive single-unit afferent ...
