Dynamic Testing of Cold Gas Sprayed Bipolar Plates–Porous Transport Layer Coating System in Proton Exchange Membrane Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Through direct application of porous transport layer (PTL) on the bipolar plate (BPP) with thermal spraying, the interfacial contact resistance is improved. With the cold gas sprayed BPP–PTL coating system, a proton exchange membrane water electrolysis cell with a cell voltage of Ucell = 1.9 V can be operated up to i = 2.5 A/cm2 in a dynamic mode ...

In-situ observation of twinning and grain rotation assisted deformation in wire-arc direct energy deposited (WDED) single phase titanium

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Additive manufacturing of metals often results in microstructural inhomogeneities, leading to the simultaneous or sequential activation of multiple deformation mechanisms.

“Spray, Spray, Spray!”: Insecticides and the Making of Applied Entomology in Canada, 1871-1914 [PDF]

open access: yesScientia Canadensis: Canadian Journal of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine, 1998
As insecticides were adopted by Canadian farmers and fruit-growers after 1871, the resources conferred on economic entomology by the Dominion and Ontario governments grew. In 1886, with the establishment of the Experimental Farms system, James Fletcher, the Dominion entomologist and botanist, and his colleagues inherited the task of promoting ...

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Tank mixture of pesticides for Spodoptera frugiperda control in maize with triflumuron

open access: yesBioscience Journal, 2017
Nowadays, few studies have been conducted to evaluate the effect of tank mixture of pesticides on pest chemical control in maize crops, however the farmers are often using these mixtures, without any technical support.

A global coating quality model for top-spray fluidized beds: spray sub model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Fluidized beds are amongst others used in industrial applications for coating particles. Little research has been performed in developing a quality model for a coating process.

The Unnatural Composite Higgs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Composite Higgs models can trivially satisfy precision-electroweak and flavour constraints by simply having a large spontaneous symmetry breaking scale, f > 10 TeV.

Multifunctional Crushing and Piezoresistive Self‐Sensing in Conductive Epoxy/CNT‐Coated Polyetherimide TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports lightweight polyetherimide triply periodic minimal surfaces lattices coated with carbon nanotube‐reinforced epoxy that combine mechanical robustness with self‐sensing. The conformal coating enhances stiffness, strength and energy absorption while enabling reliable strain monitoring.

Mechanistic insights into high strain rate deposition of tantalum carbide coatings via cold spray

open access: yesMaterials & Design
While cold spray (CS) is traditionally limited to metals and metal-ceramic composites, this study demonstrates its capability to consolidate a pure ultra-high temperature ceramic (UHTC), tantalum carbide (TaC), a superhard material considered highly ...
