The influence of the spraying angle on properties of thermally sprayed HVOF cermet coatings [PDF]

open access: yesWIT Transactions on Engineering Sciences, 2009
The tribological properties of the surfaces of parts, namely their wear resistance and friction properties, are in many cases decisive for their proper function. To improve surface properties, it is possible to create hard, wear resistant coatings by thermal spray technologies.

Influence of Spray Angle on Microstructure and Lifetime of Suspension Plasma-Sprayed Thermal Barrier Coatings

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Spray Technology, 2022
AbstractThermal barrier coatings (TBCs) are widely utilized in gas turbine engines for power generation. In recent years, the application of TBCs in automotive has been introduced to improve engine efficiency. Low thermal conductivity and high durability are desired coating properties for both gas turbine engines and automotive. Also, suspension plasma

Estimation of the breakup length for a pressure-swirl spray from the experimentally measured spray angle

open access: yes, 2009
The breakup length of a pressure-swirl spray was simply estimated using two analytical models and the measured spray angle due to the difficulty in determining the breakup length either numerically or experimentally.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Performance Analysis of Abradable Coating Systems for Aircraft Gas Turbines

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Three CoNiCrAlY/YSZ/MgAl2O4 abradable liner configurations on a nickel‐superalloy are evaluated by thermal‐gradient cycling and incursion tests. Laser ablation of the bondcoat and/or Y2O3‐stabilized ZrO2 (YSZ) intermediate layer increases mechanical interlocking and bonding for thick topcoats.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
