Effects of warming on plant uptake of post‐fire nitrogen in an arctic heath tundra

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 3, Page 1510-1521, May 2026.
Summary Postfire nitrogen (N) becomes increasingly important with the rising frequency of fires in arctic tundra, and climate warming is expected to accelerate plant recovery following fire. However, how plants differ in utilizing this postfire N and how their postfire N uptake responds to warming remains unknown.

Exploring the Environmental Sustainability of Primary Al–Air Batteries for Long‐Term Energy Storage Applications

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
An exploratory life cycle assessment compares aluminum–air batteries with gaseous and liquefied hydrogen for long‐term energy storage. The results reveal strong trade‐offs between climate benefits, resource burdens, and system efficiency, highlighting key hot spots and showing how decarbonized smelting and circular material flows can improve the ...

Exploring the Relationship Between Particle and Gas Phase Chlorine in Continental Winter

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Road salt is widely used in many North American and European urban wintertime environments, yet its impacts on tropospheric reactive chlorine species are still uncertain. We present ambient size‐resolved particle‐phase chloride (Cl−) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) measurements that were made in continental urban winter (Toronto, ON) concurrent ...

Electrical Conductivities of Conductors, Semiconductors, and Their Mixtures at Elevated Temperatures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 8, 22 April 2026.
This article presents a comprehensive review of temperature‐dependent electrical conductivity data for multiple material classes at elevated temperatures, highlighting a persistent conductivity gap between metals and semiconductors in the range of 102$\left(10\right)^{2}$– 107$\left(10\right)^{7}$ S/m. Metal–ceramic irregular metamaterials are proposed

Technological Properties of Biocomposites Produced With Agro‐Industrial Castor Waste Applicable in the Thermal Insulation of Buildings

open access: yesPolymer Composites, Volume 47, Issue 8, Page 7360-7378, 20 April 2026.
Biocomposites produced with agro‐industrial waste from castor hulls and pinewood bonded with urea‐formaldehyde adhesive, intended for application as thermal insulation in buildings. ABSTRACT The production of composite particleboards with agricultural waste has been the focus of many studies that aim to address environmental problems due to waste ...

DMS Uplift by Tropical Cyclones as a Source of SO2 in the Upper Troposphere

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 7, 16 April 2026.
Abstract Airborne observations from ACCLIP on 2 August 2022, combined with Lagrangian particle dispersion model back trajectories, reveal that SO2 mixing ratios at 14–16 km were enhanced by a factor of 4–6 in regions influenced by tropical cyclones (TCs).
