CaMKII-dependent endoplasmic reticulum fission by whisker stimulation and during cortical spreading depolarization

open access: yes, 2018
Cortical spreading depolarization waves, the cause underlying migraine aura, are also the markers and mechanism of pathology in the acutely injured human brain.

Loss of SHP1 in Spinal Astrocytes Triggers T‐Lymphocyte Infiltration and Nociceptive Hypersensitivity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Astrocyte‐specific SHP1 deletion disrupts astrocyte–vascular interactions and compromises BBB integrity while enhancing STAT1‐dependent CXCL10 expression. These changes synergistically promote peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T‐cell infiltration into the SDH. The infiltrating T cells secrete IFN‐γ, which in turn activates microglia.

Single‐Cell Transcriptomics and Metabolomics Reveal Glutamate Dehydrogenase as a Central Regulator of Nitrogen Metabolic Remodeling During Alkalinity Adaptation in Crustaceans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Single‐cell transcriptomics reveals the cellular response of Macrobrachium hainanense to carbonate alkalinity stress. Alkalinity stress impairs branchial ammonia excretion, induces mitochondrial dysfunction, and drives cell‐type‐specific changes in gills and hemocytes.

Programmable Paracrine‐Mimetic Microneedle System for Temporal Regulation of Cardiac Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Temporal signaling is encoded into a programmable paracrine‐mimetic microneedle patch via tris(2,2'‐bipyridyl)dichlororuthenium(II) hexahydrate/sodium persulfate‐tuned hydrogel microparticles that deliver TGF‐β, IGF‐1, and VEGF over phase‐matched 7‐, 14‐, and 28‐day windows.

Ketamine-induced prevention of SD-associated late infarct progression in experimental ischemia

open access: yesScientific Reports
Spreading depolarizations (SDs) occur frequently in patients with malignant hemispheric stroke. In animal-based experiments, SDs have been shown to cause secondary neuronal damage and infarct expansion during the initial period of infarct progression. In

An Innervated Human Skin Equivalent that Electrically Encodes Mechanical and Thermal Stimuli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An innervated human skin equivalent is integrated with high‐density microelectrode arrays to reveal how engineered free nerve ending–like structures translate touch and temperature into electrical codes. Mechanical indentation and thermal stimulation engage the engineered somatosensory circuitry and evoke distinct firing and waveform signatures ...

Heat‐to‐Electricity Conversion Using Barium Strontium Titanate Multilayer Capacitors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lead‐free barium strontium titanate multilayer capacitors convert waste heat into electricity via the Olsen electro‐thermodynamic cycle. These capacitors achieve an energy density of 3.7 J cm−3, comparable to the performance of lead‐based ceramics. Their high dielectric strength and broad operating temperature window below 100°C make them practical for

Nucleoside‐Modified mRNA Encoding Alpha‐Galactosidase A Ameliorates Fabry Disease Phenotypes in Human IPSC‐Derived Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Human iPSC‐derived Fabry cardiomyocytes exhibited broad transcriptional dysregulation, apoptosis, mitochondrial dysfunction, impaired reactive oxygen species handling, altered contractility, and abnormal calcium transient decay, potentially mediated by phospholamban hyperphosphorylation.

Modulatory Effects of Dopamine D2 Receptors on Spreading Depression in Rat Somatosensory Neocortex

open access: yesBasic and Clinical Neuroscience, 2014
Introduction: Spreading depression (SD) is a propagating wave of depolarization followed by depression of the neuroglial activities and can modulate extracellular dopamine concentrations in the neocortex.

Automated detection of spreading depolarizations in electrocorticography

open access: yesScientific Reports
Spreading depolarizations (SD) in the cerebral cortex are a novel mechanism of lesion development and worse outcomes after acute brain injury, but accurate diagnosis by neurophysiology is a barrier to more widespread application in neurocritical care ...
