Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Optimum chemical balance weighing design with diagonal matrix of errors based on balanced block designs

open access: yes, 2004
The paper is studying the estimation problem of individual weights of objects using the chemical balance weighing design under the restriction on the number of times in which each object is weighed.

Some observations on the constructions of chemical balance weighing designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The construction of some optimum chemical balance weighing designs from affine μ-resolvable balanced incomplete block (BIB) designs are discussed in the light of a characterization theorem on the parameters of affine μ-resolvable BIB designs as given by ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Recent developments in D-optimal designs

open access: yes, 2019
In the paper, some issues concerned with the determining spring balance weighing designs satisfying the criterion of D-optimality under the assumption measurement errors are uncorrelated and they have the same variances are discussed. In addition, highly

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

CONSTRUCTION METHOD OF A-OPTIMAL CHEMICAL BALANCE WEIGHING DESIGNS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Here, we study the design in that we determine unknown measurements of p objects by used of n measurement operations. For that reason we consider the chemical balance weighing design under assumption that the measurement errors are uncorrelated and they ...

A note on the relations between two ternary balanced block designs and chemical balance weighing designs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The paper studied the problem of estimating of the weights of p objects in n weighings using a chemical balance weighing design under the restriction on the number of objects which can be placed on the right and left pans, respectively.
