Tough, Ductile, and Strong Hard‐Soft Cementitious Composite Enabled by Multi‐Material Additive Manufacturing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the layered hard‐soft architecture found in sea sponges, this work establishes a new framework for architected cementitious composites (ACC) through multi‐material additive manufacturing (MMAM) process. The integration of mortar and elastomer phases into layered architectures enables synergistic toughening mechanisms, including

Magnolia x soulangiana 'Lilliputian': 'Lilliputian' Saucer Magnolia

open access: yesEDIS, 2014
Saucer Magnolia is a multi-stemmed, spreading tree, 15 feet tall with a 10 to 12-foot spread and bright, attractive gray bark. Growth rate is slow. Young trees are distinctly upright, becoming more oval, then round by 10-years-old.

Early Spring Flowers [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1898
YOUR readers will doubtless have been observing how the mildness of the weather this winter, so far, has hastened on the spring flowers. I am inclined to think that some of the dates mentioned below have not often been paralleled. The dates in brackets, of the usual flowering times, have been taken from Babington's “Manual of Botany” and Johnson's ...

The Spring Flowers of Colorado [PDF]

open access: yesThe American Naturalist, 1871
IT is the tenth of April, and although the skies are clear, and the sun's rays warm enough for early June, yet the Colorado landscape shows no indications of spring. The mountain range which fills the western horizon, is still clad in all the dazzling white of wintry snows, and remains a picture of beauty and sublimity quite indescribable.
