Approaches to Advising Incoming College Students with Dual Enrollment Credit

open access: yesJournal of College Orientation, Transition, and Retention, 2020
Academic advisors in higher education are often incoming students’ first exposure to college curriculum and academic expectations. Additionally, academic advisors serve as an on-going support to students throughout their college careers. As the number of

Orthodontic Open-Coil Spring Deactivation Forces Differ with Varying Activation Levels [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Coil springs are used in orthodontics to deliver forces to move teeth. However, the optimal amount of activation to produce predictable, continuous deactivation forces, for the purpose of orthodontic tooth movement, is unclear.

Geochemistry of As-, F- and B-bearing waters in and around San Antonio de los Cobres, Argentina, and implications for drinking and irrigation water quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Spring, stream and tap waters from in and around San Antonio de los Cobres, Salta, Argentina, were sampled to characterize their geochemical signatures, and to determine whether they pose a threat to human health and crops.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Linkage Mechanism Optimization and Sensitivity Analysis of an Automotive Engine Hood

open access: yesInternational Journal of Automotive Science and Technology, 2018
Equipment such as a rod between vehicle body and hood or a lift strut are used to keep automobile hood in open positions during the regular maintenances or repairs. Moreover, some effort is required to open or close automobile hood because of its weight.

bulletin which documented the major and important springs in the state (Ferguson et al., 1947). This publication was revised in 1977, with many previously undocumented springs and many new water-quality analyses being added (Rosenau et al., 1977). The

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A metamaterial having a frequency dependent elasticity tensor and a zero effective mass density

open access: yes, 2011
Within the context of linear elasticity we show that a two-terminal network of springs and masses, can respond exactly the same as a normal spring, but with a frequency dependent spring constant.
