Anisotropy Thermal Properties of Electrically Insulating Thin Films and Sheets: A Review

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Thermally conducting and electrically insulating materials with anisotropy properties play an integral role in advanced thermal management, in particular for electronic devices. This review discusses recent progress in enhancing thermal conductivity and controlling the thermal anisotropy between in‐plane and cross‐plane (through‐thickness) directions ...

Programmable Porosity in Polymers via Microfluidic Templating and 3D Printing

open access: yesSmall Methods, EarlyView.
Fluid templating is a powerful way to produce porous polymers. Microfluidic technologies enable fine control over the dimension and packing of bubbles and droplets. Combined with additive manufacturing, microfluidic templating enables the creation of polymeric functionally graded porous materials in which both porosity and three‐dimensional geometry ...

Additive Manufacturing of Hot‐Work Tool Steel by In Situ Alloying Using Laser Powder Bed Fusion and Directed Energy Deposition—Strategies to Improve Chemical Homogeneity

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
To support future alloy development a powder mixture is processed by laser additive manufacturing. The powder mixture containing Mo‐ and W‐rich tracers is processed by powder bed fusion using single and double laser exposure and by directed energy deposition which provides drastically enlarged melt pools.

Influence of Viscous Dissipation on Wear Behavior and Hardness Evolution of Tool Steels in Glass‐Fiber‐Reinforced Polymer Processing

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Tool steels tested under injection molding conditions with glass‐fiber‐reinforced polymers, revealing how viscous dissipation drives hardness loss, even in PM grades. A sharp rise in wear with increasing injection volume rate and thermomechanical load uncovers striking material differences.

Fatigue Strength in Additive Toolmaking: A Study of Metal Binder Jetting and Electron Beam Melting for Processing Carbide‐Rich Cold‐Work Tool Steels

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Focusing on the critical tap hole region of the blast furnace, this work examines binder characteristics, prepares tap hole clay with different formulations, and evaluates their physical properties. The findings confirm the advantages of composite binders and offer a new binder option for tap hole clay.

Influences of Cleanliness, Carbide Size, Hardness, and Residual Stresses on Long‐Life Fatigue Strength and Crack‐Initiation Mechanisms in Carbide‐Rich Cold‐Work Tool Steels Using Normalized S–N Curves and Database‐Driven Validation of Murakami's √Area Model

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Rotating‐bending fatigue tests on AISI D2 and AISI A11 quantify how cleanliness, carbide structure, hardness, and fabrication‐induced compressive residual stresses govern long‐life fatigue at NG = 107 cycles. Statistical fracture‐surface analysis and extreme‐value √area statistics link crack‐initiators to LLF strength.
