Influence of sprouting environment on the microbiota of sprouts

Journal of Food Safety, 2017
AbstractSprouts are popular for health conscious and vegetarian consumers; however, this produce item has been associated with frequent foodborne outbreaks. To understand the influence of the sprouting environment on the microbiota colonizing the sprout, microbial populations of both sprouting seeds and sprouts were characterized using terminal ...

Biofortification of soybean sprouts with zinc and bioaccessibility of zinc in the sprouts

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2014
AbstractBACKGROUNDSoybean sprouts are a very popular vegetable in Southeast Asian countries and regions. Zinc‐rich soybean sprouts can help to improve Zn deficiency in humans. The aim of this study was to prepare Zn‐enriched soybean sprouts through agronomic biofortification (germination with ZnSO4 solution) in order to provide consumers with a dietary

Influence of sprout tip necrosis and rosette sprout formation on internal sprouting of potatoes

American Potato Journal, 1969
Sprouts of potato tubers allowed to develop in a dark, dry environment at 60 F developed tip necrosis which was alleviated by application of calcium salts. Successive removal of sprout tips at an eye led to the formation of sprout clusters of sufficient density to cause penetration of the tuber by new sprouts arising from the cluster.

To sprout or “Notch” to sprout?

Blood, 2011
In this issue of Blood , Zheng and colleagues demonstrate that the Notch signaling pathway is active in lymphatic endothelial cells and that inhibition of Notch signaling, in concert with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) stimulation, promotes lymphatic endothelial cell sprouting.
