Controlled formation of anatase and rutile TiO2 thin films by reactive magnetron sputtering

open access: yes, 2015
We discuss the formation of TiO2 thin films via DC reactive magnetron sputtering. The oxygen concentration during sputtering proved to be a crucial parameter with respect to the final film structure and properties.

Sputtered silicon nitride coatings for wear protection [PDF]

open access: yes
Silicon nitride films were deposited by RF sputtering on 304 stainless steel substrates in a planar RF sputtering apparatus. The sputtering was performed from a Si3N4 target in a sputtering atmosphere of argon and nitrogen.

Non Thermal‐Driven Photocatalytic Ammonia Decomposition at Near‐Room Temperature on a Plasmonic Nanocone Array

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Plasmonic photocatalytic ammonia decomposition occurs at near‐room temperature on a plasmonic Au nanocone array under visible light illumination. The nanostructure efficiently harnesses plasmonic modes, leading to increased reaction rates upon plasmon decay.

Prospects of Electric Field Control in Perpendicular Magnetic Tunnel Junctions and Emerging 2D Spintronics for Ultralow Energy Memory and Logic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electric control of magnetic tunnel junctions offers a path to drastically reduce the energy requirements of the device. Electric field control of magnetization can be realized in a multitude of ways. These mechanisms can be integrated into existing spintronic devices to further reduce the operational energy.

Preparation of atomically clean and flat Si(100) surfaces by low-energy ion sputtering and low-temperature annealing

open access: yes, 2003
Si(100) surfaces were prepared by wet-chemical etching followed by 0.3-1.5keV Ar ion sputtering, either at elevated or room temperature. After a brief anneal under ultrahigh vacuum conditions, the resulting surfaces were examined by scanning tunneling ...

Z‐Scheme Water Splitting Systems Based on Solid‐State Electron Conductors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines the latest advances in Z‐scheme overall water splitting (OWS) systems for solar hydrogen production. These systems consist of suspended or immobilized hydrogen evolution photocatalysts (HEPs) and oxygen evolution photocatalysts (OEPs).

Crater formation by fast ions: comparison of experiment with Molecular Dynamics simulations

open access: yes, 2001
An incident fast ion in the electronic stopping regime produces a track of excitations which can lead to particle ejection and cratering. Molecular Dynamics simulations of the evolution of the deposited energy were used to study the resulting crater ...

The Influence of Annealing on the Sb Layer in the Synthesis of [001]‐Oriented Sb2Se3 Film for Photoelectrochemical Hydrogen Gas Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
[001]‐oriented Sb2Se3 film with improved crystallinity and adjusted composition is achieved via a new thermal treatment approach consisting of preliminary annealing of the Sb layer before its selenization. The findings of this work demonstrate enhanced charge carriers' transportation, a stable performance, and an improvement of H2 generation from ...
