Evaluation of various fluid-film models for use in the analysis of squeeze film dampers with a central groove [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Experimental vibration responses of squeeze film dampers (SFDs) are obtained with four different central groove depths, two types of lubricant and various unbalance levels.

On Non-Newtonian Rabinowitsch Fluid Squeeze Film Lubrication between Rough Circular Stepped Plates

open access: yesTribology Online, 2016
In this paper the effect of surface roughness on squeeze film lubrication between circular stepped plates is analysed. The modified non-linear averaged Reynolds type equation is derived on the basis of Christensen’s stochastic theory for rough surfaces ...

A Brief Discussion Regarding Types of Cavitation in Squeeze Film Dampers and Cavitation Effects [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2017
Squeeze film dampers (SFD) are probably the most used shaft control devices in aircraft jet engines; SFDs consist in oil films, elastic elements and various antirotational devices that tune the stiffness and damping of the shafts’ supports and ...

Effects of UHMWPE viscoelasticity on the squeeze‐film lubrication of hip replacements

open access: yesBiosurface and Biotribology, 2021
Many studies have been performed to analyse the lubrication of artificial joints since the pioneer work by the late Professor Duncan Dowson. However, the viscoelastic deformation of one of the most widely used bearing materials, ultra‐high‐molecular ...

Some Aspects Regarding the Modeling of Highly Pressurized Squeeze Film Dampers [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2010
Squeeze film dampers (SFD) have been used for many years to control vibration in gasturbines and other high-speed rotating machinery. The overall objective of this paper is to present theanalysis and validation of a dynamic model of a highly pressurized ...

Mushy Regions in Negative Squeeze Films [PDF]

open access: yesThe Quarterly Journal of Mechanics and Applied Mathematics, 2003
Summary: Some experiments on cavitation between moving parallel plates suggest a novel free boundary model for the evolution of a mushy region in a negative squeeze film. The mushy region nucleates when the plates enclosing the film are pulled apart sufficiently rapidly for the pressure to drop to a critical value at some point of the film.
