Squeeze Film Dampers: Amplitude Effects at Low Squeeze Numbers
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1975Gaseous squeeze film dampers are analyzed to determine the effect of periodic disturbance amplitude on the dynamic performance. Both circular and rectangular parallel surfaces are investigated. A solution of the nonlinear Reynolds equation is obtained by expanding the pressure in powers of the squeeze number σ, retaining up to and including terms 0(σ2).

Effect of Squeeze Film Damper Land Geometry on Damper Performance
Tribology Transactions, 1994Variable axial land geometry dampers can significantly alter the unbalance response, and in particular, the likelihood of undesirable jump behavior, of circular orbit-type squeeze film dampers. Assuming end feed, the pressure distribution, the fluid film forces, and the stiffness and damping coefficients are obtained for such variable axial land ...

Experimental Pressures and Film Forces in a Squeeze Film Damper
Journal of Tribology, 1993The effect of whirl frequency and lubricant viscosity on the dynamic pressures and force response of an open end and a partially sealed squeeze film dampers (SFD) with a radial clearance of 0.38 mm is determined experimentally. The experiments are carried out in a damper test rig executing circular centered orbits and for whirl frequencies ranging from

The conceptual design of the squeeze film damper and variable structure damper
2013 IEEE International Symposium on Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM), 2013The Squeeze film damper has been extensively researched for engineering application. The conceptual design work in this article includes the description, induction and classification of the squeeze film damper structure, and a brief analysis of the structural features and performance characteristics.

Experimental Investigation of a Simple Squeeze Film Damper
Journal of Engineering for Industry, 1974This paper describes an experimental investigation of a squeeze film damper for the control of rotor amplitudes. From direct measurements of the transmitted force and the velocity of the damper sleeve, the damping coefficient of the squeeze film is obtained over a range of frequencies and for several values of film thickness and oil viscosity.

Sealing Effect on the Performance of Squeeze Film Damper
Volume 3: Heat Transfer, Parts A and B, 2009Seals used in the squeeze film damper restrict the side leakage of the lubricant, thus providing a measure of additional damping. In this paper, the serrated piston ring and end-plate seals are studied numerically using CFD-ACE+, a commercially available finite volume based algorithm.

Experimental Observation of Cavitating Squeeze-Film Dampers
Journal of Tribology, 1987This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation intended to observe cavitation in squeeze-film bearing dampers representative of those commonly found in aircraft gas turbine engines. Two different squeeze-film damper geometries were tested with both high-speed motion pictures and stroboscopic video recordings acquired at speeds up to ...

Modeling Finite Squeeze Film Dampers
Volume 4: Turbo Expo 2002, Parts A and B, 2002Most closed form solutions of Reynolds’ equation assume either a short bearing approximation or a long bearing approximation. These closed form approximations are used in rotordynamic simulation applications, otherwise a Finite Difference solution of Reynolds’ equation would be prohibitively time consuming.

A Study of a Dual Clearance Squeeze Film Damper
ASME/STLE 2009 International Joint Tribology Conference, 2009Squeeze film dampers (SFD) are devices utilized to control vibrations of the shafts of high-speed rotating machinery. A dual squeeze film damper (DSFD) consists of two squeeze film bearings that are separated by a sleeve, which is released when the rotor experiences abnormal operating conditions.

Pressurized Oil Squeeze Film Dampers
Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1980A pressurized oil squeeze film damper supporting a rigid rotor mounted in antifriction bearings is investigated. Orifice and inherent feed inlets are examined, and it is shown that the clearance determines the inlet resistance for a groove or slot. The film stiffness and damping forces are determined as a function of the restrictor coefficient, rotor ...
