Modular Organization of Signal Transmission in Primate Somatosensory Cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroanatomy, 2022
Axonal patches are known as the major sites of synaptic connections in the cerebral cortex of higher order mammals. However, the functional role of these patches is highly debated.

Multiple interaction modes between saccharin and sweet taste receptors determine a species‐dependent response to saccharin

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2022
Saccharin is a commonly used artificial sweetener that exhibits both sweetening and sweet inhibition activities. The species‐dependent response towards saccharin and the interaction between saccharin and the sweet taste receptor T1R2/T1R3 remain elusive.

Space Use Preferences and Species Proximity in a Mixed-Species Zoo Monkey Exhibit

open access: yesJournal of Zoological and Botanical Gardens
Many zoos display animals in mixed-species exhibits where multiple different species share the same space and potentially interact. This study analyzes a mixed-species exhibit with three New World monkey species (white-faced saki, black-capped squirrel ...

Mechanisms of Action and Targets of Nitric Oxide in the Oculomotor System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Nitric oxide (NO) production by neurons in the prepositus hypoglossi (PH) nucleus is necessary for the normal performance of eye movements in alert animals.

The Japan Monkey Centre Primates Brain Imaging Repository of high-resolution postmortem magnetic resonance imaging: The second phase of the archive of digital records

open access: yesNeuroImage, 2023
A comparison of neuroanatomical features of the brain between humans and our evolutionary relatives, nonhuman primates, is key to understanding the human brain system and the neural basis of mental and neurological disorders.

Individual differences in zoo-housed squirrel monkeys’ (Saimiri sciureus) reactions to visitors, research participation, and personality ratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Understanding individual differences in captive squirrel monkeys is a topic of importance both for improving welfare by catering to individual needs, and for better understanding the results and implications of behavioral research.

Development of an optogenetic toolkit for neural circuit dissection in squirrel monkeys

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2018
Optogenetic tools have opened a rich experimental landscape for understanding neural function and disease. Here, we present the first validation of eight optogenetic constructs driven by recombinant adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors and a WGA-Cre ...

Study of humoral immune response in mammals immunized with Plasmodium falciparum antigenic preparations

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 1992
Six Plasmodium falciparum protein fractions, isolated under reducing conditions, were used to immunize mice, rabbits and the squirrel monkey Saimiri sciureus. Five or seven subcutaneous injections of each antigenic preparation, in conjunction with Freund'

Hominoid‐specific calretinin‐immunopositivity of the optic radiation (geniculocalcarine tract)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Calretinin‐immunostained coronal section through the primary (V1) and extrastriate (ExSt) cortex of the lar gibbon. Note that the optic radiation (OR) is strongly calretinin‐immunoreactive. This calretinin‐immunopositivity of the OR distinguishes the Hominoidea from other primates in terms of the neurochemistry of the OR.
