Control of action potential afterdepolarizations in the inferior olive by inactivating A‐type currents through KV4 channels

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend KV4 channel availability regulates inferior olive action potential duration. The durations of action potentials in inferior olive neurons (blue) depend strongly on preceding membrane potential, with afterdepolarizations varying over the physiological range by almost two orders of magnitude (open circles). Voltage clamp recordings

Polymorphism in the Sr-Bi System

Journal of Phase Equilibria and Diffusion, 2021
Eleven examples of hexagonal and orthorhombic polymorphs of intermetallic compounds having 5:3 stoichiometry are listed in the International Crystal Structure Database. A transition temperature between them has only been determined for the Yb–Sb and Sr–Bi systems, but results on the Sr–Bi system are discrepant with those on the Yb–Sb system, in which ...

Regulation of macrophage SR-BI by lipoproteins and inflammatory stimuli [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In atherosclerotic plaques, macrophages ingest modified LDL and turn to foam cells. Others have shown that SR-BI expression levels inversely correlated with cellular cholesterol levels, and is independent of well characterized cholesterol sensing pathways; SREBP and LXR. Thus the mechanism of regulation of SR-BI is unclear.

SR-BI and fatty platelets

Blood, 2010
Dysregulated cholesterol transport and metabolism are important risk factors for atherothrombosis and are commonly associated with enhanced platelet reactivity; however, the molecular mechanisms linking hypercholesterolemia with increased platelet function remain unclear.

Influence of the HDL receptor SR-BI on atherosclerosis

Current Opinion in Lipidology, 1999
The scavenger receptor class B, type I (SR-BI) is an HDL receptor that mediates selective cholesterol uptake from HDL to cells. In rodents, SR-BI has a critical influence on plasma HDL-cholesterol concentration and structure, the delivery of cholesterol to steroidogenic tissues, female fertility, and biliary cholesterol concentration.

The Janus-faced role of SR-BI in atherosclerosis

Nature Metabolism, 2019
The entry of remnants of cholesterol-rich lipoproteins, such as low-density lipoprotein (LDL), from the blood stream into the intima of large arteries initiates and then perpetuates atherosclerosis. A study published in Nature sheds new light on this important process by identifying scavenger receptor BI (SR-BI) as a major receptor that mediates LDL ...
