Impact of Climate Change on the Potential Distribution of Macaúba (Acrocomia aculeata, Acrocomia totai, Acrocomia intumescens) in Brazil

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Climate change is projected to drive contrasting responses among Brazilian macaúba palms, ranging from relative stability and expansion to severe suitability loss. Ensemble ecological distribution models identified Acrocomia intumescens as highly vulnerable, while A.

Natural Resources and Political Patronage in Africa: An Ethnicity Level Analysis

open access: yesReview of Development Economics, Volume 30, Issue 3, Page 1957-1972, August 2026.
ABSTRACT We investigate the effect of resource discoveries on ethnicity‐level political patronage in Africa using a large geospatial dataset of 254 ethnic groups in 15 countries over the period 1960–2004. We find that the first (or single first) resource discovery in a virgin ethnic homeland increases the share of cabinet posts of that ethnicity.

Quantitative analysis of channel characteristics of distributive fluvial systems

open access: yesSedimentology, Volume 73, Issue 5, Page 1606-1630, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Distributive fluvial systems (DFSs) are characterised by a radial distributive channel pattern in planform and dominate modern‐day sedimentary basins. Where aggradation occurs, such as in sedimentary basins, there is increased preservation potential, and therefore, DFSs are hypothesised to constitute a significant portion of the continental ...

Extreme Events Reshape Flood Hazards Through Sediment‐Induced Channel Change in Southern Taiwan

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 14, 28 July 2026.
Abstract Extreme precipitation events can cause long‐lasting changes to river systems, altering flood hazards beyond the initial disaster. We investigate how Typhoon Morakot (2009) impacted flood inundation patterns across four river catchments in southern Taiwan.

Transient Creep on the Yarlung Zangbo Suture in Southern Tibet Triggered by the 2015 Gorkha (Nepal) Earthquake

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Large earthquakes often elevate seismicity in surrounding regions, as seen on the Xainza‐Dinggyê rift in southern Tibet after the 2015 MW 7.8 Gorkha (Nepal) earthquake. In contrast, the EW‐trending Yarlung Zangbo suture (YZS), located directly north of this event, exhibits seismic quiescence.
