Otologic Surgery Risk Prediction: Risk Analysis Index‐Administrative Versus Modified Frailty Index‐5

In a national cohort of 2862 patients undergoing otologic surgery, the risk analysis index‐administrative (RAI‐A) outperformed the modified frailty index‐5 (mFI‐5) in predicting key 30‐day postoperative outcomes, including mortality, complications, surgical site infection, extended length of stay, and nonhome discharge.

Objective: Pediatric cardiac surgery site infections (SSI) represent significant morbidity. Our institution reported elevated SSI rates of 3.48 per 100 cases over a 5-year period above target rates of 2.5 per 100 cases.

Risk Analysis Index Versus mFI‐5 for Predicting Outcomes After Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

This retrospective database study of 2129 adults undergoing uvulopalatopharyngoplasty compared the risk analysis index (RAI) with the modified 5‐item frailty index (mFI‐5) for predicting 30‐day postoperative outcomes and found that frailty was associated with worse morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, non‐home discharge, and mortality.
