Periprosthetic joint infection risk is comparable between unicompartmental knee arthroplasty to total knee arthroplasty conversion and primary total knee arthroplasty: A systematic review and meta‐analysis

open access: yesKnee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) offers benefits over total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but some studies indicated higher revision rates, often involving conversion to TKA. The infection risk associated with UKA to TKA conversion compared to primary TKA is not definitively established.

A Deeper Look at Proposed Surveillance of Superficial Incision Surgical Site Infections (SSISSIs)

open access: yesAntimicrobial Stewardship & Healthcare Epidemiology
Although the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) recommends the reporting of superficial incisional SSIs, the standardized infection ratio (SIR) models used by the NSHN exclude superficial incisional SSIs cases.

Otologic Surgery Risk Prediction: Risk Analysis Index‐Administrative Versus Modified Frailty Index‐5

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
In a national cohort of 2862 patients undergoing otologic surgery, the risk analysis index‐administrative (RAI‐A) outperformed the modified frailty index‐5 (mFI‐5) in predicting key 30‐day postoperative outcomes, including mortality, complications, surgical site infection, extended length of stay, and nonhome discharge.

Pediatric cardiac surgical site infections: A single-center quality improvement initiativeCentral MessagePerspective

open access: yesJTCVS Open
Objective: Pediatric cardiac surgery site infections (SSI) represent significant morbidity. Our institution reported elevated SSI rates of 3.48 per 100 cases over a 5-year period above target rates of 2.5 per 100 cases.

Risk Analysis Index Versus mFI‐5 for Predicting Outcomes After Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This retrospective database study of 2129 adults undergoing uvulopalatopharyngoplasty compared the risk analysis index (RAI) with the modified 5‐item frailty index (mFI‐5) for predicting 30‐day postoperative outcomes and found that frailty was associated with worse morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, non‐home discharge, and mortality.

Semi‐Analytical Solution of Time‐Harmonic Soil–Pile Interaction Using Love Numbers in Transversely Isotropic and Layered Half‐Spaces

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT An efficient semi‐analytical approach based on the Fourier–Bessel series (FBS) system of vector functions and the stiffness matrix method is proposed to study the dynamic response of axially loaded piles embedded in transversely isotropic (TI) layered soil.

Comprehensive DIA‐MS Proteomics of Root Basal Nodes Elucidates Mechanisms of Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesPROTEOMICS, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soil salinity severely affects rice growth, yield, and quality, posing a global food security challenge. Rice is particularly vulnerable to high salinity, which restricts growth and tolerance to other stresses. To address this, breeding efforts have been made in the past, leading to the generation of multi‐stress‐tolerant rice lines.

Using the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance risk index to determine risk factors associated with surgical site infections following gynecologic surgeries

open access: yesGinekologia Polska
OBJECTIVES: We used the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) risk index to determine risk factors associated with surgical site infections (SSIs) following gynecologic surgeries.
