Tools for simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers

open access: yesAGRICULTURE UPDATE, 2016
SSRs or microsatellites are tandem repeats of 2-8nt units of DNA and are ubiquitous in all genomes studied so far. SSR markers have many advantages over the other marker systems. The first advantage is their high reproducibility, which would be the most important in genetic analysis.

Experimental investigation of reinforced concrete members subjected to reversed cyclic axial loading

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper presents an experimental campaign of five reinforced concrete members subjected to cyclic axial loading alternating between tension and compression. Fiber optical sensors and digital image correlation, in combination with automated crack detection and measurement, were used to investigate, among other aspects, the development of ...

The Price of a Whipple: Predicting Hospital Charges Using Preoperative Patient Characteristics

open access: yesWorld Journal of Surgery, EarlyView.
Preoperative lab abnormalities are significant predictors of hospital charges following Whipple's pancreaticoduodenectomy. In a retrospective review of 375 cases, patients with ≥ 3 preoperative laboratory‐based predictors incurred substantially higher charges, underscoring the value of preoperative optimization in reducing financial burden.

Both forest cover and land management practices explain variation in recovering pine marten densities

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Robust monitoring of wildlife populations to guide interventions is fundamental to conservation and wildlife management. Understanding how landscape characteristics are influencing predator population dynamics is often vital to inform recovery strategies, management, and policy. The pine marten Martes martes is recovering in the UK; however, population

Association Mapping Analysis of Morphological Characteristics in F2 Population of Perilla (Perilla frutescens L.) Using SSR Markers

open access: yesPlants
To identify SSR markers associated with both quantitative and qualitative traits in Perilla, we analyzed a total of 68 individuals from an F2 population derived from a cross between WPC06-339 (weedy var. crispa) and WPF17-049 (weedy var.

Development of Microsatellite Markers for Ex Situ Management of the Harpy Eagle Using Next Generation Sequencing

open access: yesZoo Biology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Harpy Eagle (Harpia harpyja), one of the largest birds of prey in the world, is threatened with extinction throughout its entire area of occurrence in the Neotropics. While conservation efforts for the wild populations are crucial, it is also important to focus on ex situ conservation actions.

SAT, a flexible and optimized Web application for SSR marker development

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2007
BackgroundSimple Sequence Repeats (SSRs), or microsatellites, are among the most powerful genetic markers known. A common method for the development of SSR markers is the construction of genomic DNA libraries enriched for SSR sequences, followed by DNA ...

Cross species transferability of G-SSR and EST-SSR markers to Neltuma affinis Spreng.

open access: yesForest Systems
Aim of study: To examine the transferability of G-SSR (genomic simple sequence repeats) and EST-SSR (expressed sequence tag simple sequence repeats) markers developed for several Neltuma species to N. affinis, a species with no genomic data. Area of study: West-Center of Entre Ríos province, Argentina. The set of molecular markers here proposed can be

‘Humans Are Omnipotent and Beyond Their Destiny!’ Late Soviet Perspective on Girls’ Upbringing and the Female Self

open access: yesGender &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The article examines post‐Stalinist Soviet expertise on girls’ education and upbringing, analysing texts for and about female adolescents created by specialists in pedagogical sciences, psychology, sociology, medicine as well as children's writers and journalists from different parts of the Union, including national republics. The text focuses
