First record of gregarine protists (Apicomplexa: Sporozoa) in Asian fungus-growing termite Macrotermes barneyi (Blattaria: Termitidae)

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Macrotermes barneyi, widely distributed in southern China, is the major fungus-growing termite in the subfamily Macrotermitinae. It has no flagellated protists in the guts.

Gastronautidae Deroux, 1994 and Trithigmostoma Jankowski, 1967: Evolutionary Links Among Cyrtophorian Ciliates (Protista, Ciliophora, and Phyllopharyngea)

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2021
Studies on cyrtophorian ciliates (Cyrtophoria) have accumulated much knowledge on morphological taxonomy and molecular phylogeny, and the general classification and phylogenetic relationships of most families have thereby been revealed.

Phylogeny of the photosynthetic euglenophytes inferred from the nuclear SSU and partial LSU rDNA [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2003
Previous studies using the nuclear SSU rDNA have indicated that the photosynthetic euglenoids are a monophyletic group; however, some of the genera within the photosynthetic lineage are not monophyletic. To test these results further, evolutionary relationships among the photosynthetic genera were investigated by obtaining partial LSU nuclear rDNA ...

Lineage-specific variations of congruent evolution among DNA sequences from three genomes, and relaxed selective constraints on rbcL in Cryptomonas (Cryptophyceae)

open access: yesBMC Evolutionary Biology, 2005
Background Plastid-bearing cryptophytes like Cryptomonas contain four genomes in a cell, the nucleus, the nucleomorph, the plastid genome and the mitochondrial genome.

Novel Discovery of Two Heterotrichid Ciliates, Climacostomum virens and Fabrea salina (Ciliophora: Heterotrichea: Heterotrichida) in Korea

open access: yesAnimal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity, 2015
Two heterotrichid ciliates, Climacostomum virens (Ehrenberg, 1838) Stein, 1859 from brackish water and freshwater, and Fabrea salina Henneguy, 1890 from a solar saltern, were collected in Korea.

Morphological and molecular characterisation of Myxobolus pronini n. sp. (Myxozoa: Myxobolidae) from the abdominal cavity and visceral serous membranes of the gibel carp Carassius auratus gibelio (Bloch) in Russia and China

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2016
Background Myxozoa is a well-known economically and ecologically important group of metazoan parasites, phylogenetically related to Cnidaria. High diversity of myxosporeans has been recorded in Russia and China; however, most of the species were solely ...

SSU rDNA analysis of Kudoa rosenbuschi (Myxosporea) from the Argentinean hake Merluccius hubbsi [PDF]

open access: yesDiseases of Aquatic Organisms, 2005
The cloning and sequencing of the small subunit (SSU) ribosomal DNA gene from Kudoa rosenbuschi (myxosporean species associated with post-mortem myoliquefaction process in the Argentinean hake Merluccius hubbsi) is reported. The SSU rDNA was found to contain 1740 bp with a single polymorphic site with either a C or T at position 221.
