Priority Management for Urban Arterials. Transferability of Techniques: Otley/Kirkstall Road [PDF]
This paper describes the background and methodology employed in research funded by EPSRC to assess the effect of individual traffic control measures, both in isolation and in combination upon urban arterials.

The Herschel Planetary Nebula Survey (HerPlaNS) I. Data Overview and Analysis Demonstration with NGC 6781 [PDF]
This is the first of a series of investigations into far-IR characteristics of 11 planetary nebulae (PNs) under the Herschel Space Observatory Open Time 1 program, Herschel Planetary Nebula Survey (HerPlaNS). Using the HerPlaNS data set, we look into the

Assessing the impact of model biases on subseasonal forecast skill
Relaxation experiments where the nudging was performed towards bias‐corrected integrations of the same model display significantly improved skill at weeks 3 and 4, particularly in the northern extratropics. This indicates that there is a large potential for improving dynamical subseasonal forecasting skill by improved treatment of model biases.

From multiplicative noise to directed percolation in wetting transitions
A simple one-dimensional microscopic model of the depinning transition of an interface from an attractive hard wall is introduced and investigated. Upon varying a control parameter, the critical behaviour observed along the transition line changes from a

Kilometre‐scale climate simulations for Scandinavia indicate the importance of high resolution for reproducing downslope windstorms (DWs). Scandinavian DWs on average induce a limited local warming but with large variability due to the region's complex orography.

The Wiener Property for a Class of Fourier Integral Operators [PDF]
We construct a one-parameter family of algebras consisting of Fourier integral operators. We derive boundedness results, composition rules, and the spectral invariance of this class of operators. The operator algebra is defined by the decay properties of

Daily time series of zonal‐mean zonal wind (m·s−1) at 10 hPa and 60° N from 1950 to 2021 from the ERA5 reanalysis. This shows huge variability in some seasons and very little in others. We provide evidence that high‐level observations, radiosonde and satellite, are more important during the extended winter season with its very large variability ...

A tropical stratopause precursor for sudden stratospheric warmings
Dramatic meteorological phenomena in the winter polar stratosphere known as Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) events are well recognized for their impacts felt across the whole atmosphere.

Views from the coalface: chemo-sensors, sensor networks and the semantic sensor web [PDF]
Currently millions of sensors are being deployed in sensor networks across the world. These networks generate vast quantities of heterogeneous data across various levels of spatial and temporal granularity. Sensors range from single-point in situ sensors
