Changes in fluoroquinolone-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae after 7-valent conjugate vaccination, Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Among 4,215 Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates obtained in Spain during 2006, 98 (2.3%) were ciprofloxacin resistant (3.6% from adults and 0.14% from children). In comparison with findings from a 2002 study, global resistance remained stable.

Algorithms and lower bounds for de Morgan formulas of low-communication leaf gates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The class $FORMULA[s] \circ \mathcal{G}$ consists of Boolean functions computable by size-$s$ de Morgan formulas whose leaves are any Boolean functions from a class $\mathcal{G}$.

Multilocus sequence typing of Cronobacter sakazakii and Cronobacter malonaticus reveals stable clonal structures with clinical significance which do not correlate with biotypes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: The Cronobacter genus (Enterobacter sakazakii) has come to prominence due to its association with infant infections, and the ingestion of contaminated reconstituted infant formula. C. sakazakii and C.

Industry 4.0 Challenges and Implementation Strategies: Benchmarked Results From Food and Beverage Manufacturing Industries in Tanzania

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2025.
The study examines the challenges and implementation strategies of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) in Tanzania's food and beverage manufacturing industries (FBMIs). Pertinent data were collected from 103 medium and large FBMIs, and the study found no significant differences in challenges such as financial, return on investment, and securing funds.

Aspects of Coulomb damping in rotors supported on hydrodynamic bearings [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The paper is concerned with the effect of friction in drive couplings on the non-sychronous whirling of a shaft. A simplified model is used to demonstrate the effect of large coupling misalignments on the stability of the system.

Controlling Mackey--Glass chaos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The Mackey--Glass equation, which was proposed to illustrate nonlinear phenomena in physiological control systems, is a classical example of a simple looking time delay system with very complicated behavior. Here we use a novel approach for chaos control:
