Renewable Materials for Stab Resistance

2016
Different materials were investigated experimentally with respect to their stab resistance. The focus of this research is the use of renewable cellulosic materials , such as cotton and paper, in comparison with high-performance materials, such as aramid or ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene. The tests were carried out according to the standard of

Ultrasound assessment of the vulnerability of the internal organs to stabbing: determining safety standards for stab-resistant body armour

Injury, 2000
Stab-resistant body armour may not always prevent the passage of a blade into the human body. The depth to which a knife may 'safely' enter the human body before it breaches the internal organs was explored by ultrasound scanning of 25 healthy volunteers.

Superhydrophobic Aramid Composite Materials for Stab‐Resistant Vests: Integration of Fluorinated SiC Nanoparticles and TPU

Polymers for Advanced Technologies
Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) has found extensive applications in textiles, furniture coatings, etc., and this is attributed to its outstanding chemical resistance and hydrophobicity.

The stab resistant properties of Kevlar/STF composites

SPIE Proceedings, 2012
A colloidal shear thickening fluid (STF) was prepared by dispersing submicron silica particles in Polyethylene glycol 200(PEG200) with ball-milling technique. Kevlar/STF composites were fabricated by soaking Kevlar in the solution of STF diluted by ethanol.

Stab resistance of UHMWPE fiber composites impregnated with thermoplastics

Polymers for Advanced Technologies, 2014
Compared with aramid fabrics, ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene fiber unidirectional (UHMWPE UD) composites have higher ballistic limited velocity at the same areal density, making UHMWPE UD composites better candidate materials for the design of body armor against ballistic and stab impact.

Experimental and numerical simulation of high density polyethylene–Kevlar trauma liner–polycarbonate hybrid composites for National Institute of Justice Level II stab-resistant of lightweight body armour

International Journal of Protective Structures
The advancement of stab-resistant body armour is critical for law enforcement and military personnel operating in high-risk environments. Conventional armour systems, while effective, often impose excessive weight and restrict mobility, compromising ...

Stab and cut resistance of knitted structures: a comparative study

Textile Research Journal, 2010
A new double-face knitted structure has been developed which is composed of tuck stitches and has the same back and front faces. The newly derived structure, manufactured from p-aramid fibers with and without inlay yarns, has been compared with jersey and plush structures of these same fibers in terms of cut and stab performances.

Polyethylene terephthalate/basalt stab-resistant sandwich composites based on the Box–Behnken design: Parameter optimization and empirical regression model

Journal of Sandwich Structures and Materials, 2018
In this study, the thicknesswise fibers of the low-melting polyethylene terephthalate (LPET) nonwoven fabrics are needle punched and intertwined with the intra-laminar basalt fibers (BF) of basalt plain woven fabric in order to strengthen the stab ...

Advanced Stab Resistance Fabrics Utilizing Shear Thickening Fluids

Advanced Materials Research, 2011
A series of shear thickening fluids (STF) were prepared and characterized by Rheometer. The stab resistance of Kevlar and ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) non-woven fabrics impregnated with STF were investigated and found to exhibit significant improvements over neat fabric targets of equivalent weight.

Stab resistance of triaxial woven fabrics for soft body armor

Journal of Industrial Textiles, 2014
Protective body armors, providing protection against stab threats, have long been in a focus of substantial interest. Lightweight fabric for flexible body armors that satisfy the customized fit, comfort, and protection should be considered. Sharp impact experiments were conducted on single and multilayer fabrics of Kevlar
