Mechanistic modelling of weak interlayers in flexible and semi-flexible road pavements: Part 2
This paper (Part 2 of a two-part set of papers) discusses models and illustrates the adverse effects of weak layers, interlayers, laminations and/or weak interfaces in flexible and semi-flexible pavements, also incorporating lightly cemented layers.

This study is aimed at evaluating the strength of stabilised soil collected from the Port of Norvik, Stockholm, Sweden, where 350,000 m3 of clay had to be stabilized. The tests were performed in the laboratory of the Swedish Geotechnical Institute (SGI).

Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Introduction: Nanocomposite has been developed as a dental restoration. Nano-scale filler can result in high mechanical properties and good esthetic. Nanofiller materials such as partially stabilised zirconia (PSZ) has been recommended for dental use ...

Bilateral lens coloboma in child with Marfan's syndrome treated with lens surgery
Lens coloboma can occur with ocular or systemic associations like Marfan's and Stickler's syndrome. Causes of poor vision include refractive error, anisometropia and amblyopia.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Despite increasing interest in calcium carbide residue (CCR)-based materials for soil stabilisation, the durability, leachability, and environmental impacts of stabilised soils remain insufficiently evaluated for applications.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Surgical stabilisation of the spine [PDF]
It is important to assess spinal injuries, both in terms of cord damage and column damage, shortly after the trauma has occurred. A decision should then be made concerning the eventual stability of the bony vertebral column. If a lesion is unlikely to heal soundly by bone or if one is unable to obtain a reduction by conservative measures, one should ...

We propose an extension to the Pauli stabiliser formalism that includes fractional 2π/N rotations around the Z axis for some integer N. The resulting generalised stabiliser formalism – denoted the XP stabiliser formalism – allows for a wider range of states and codespaces to be represented. We describe the states which arise in the formalism,
