Stability estimation for unsupervised clustering: A review [PDF]

open access: yesWIREs Computational Statistics, 2022
AbstractCluster analysis remains one of the most challenging yet fundamental tasks in unsupervised learning. This is due in part to the fact that there are no labels or gold standards by which performance can be measured. Moreover, the wide range of clustering methods available is governed by different objective functions, different parameters, and ...

The Rigidity and Stability of Gradient Estimates

open access: yesThe Journal of Geometric Analysis, 2022
In this note, we obtain the rigidity of the sharp Cheng-Yau gradient estimate for positive harmonic functions on surfaces with nonegative Gaussian curvature, the rigidity of the sharp Li-Yau gradient estimate for positive solutions to heat equations and the related estimates for Dirichlet Green's functions on Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative Ricci

On the stability of network distance estimation [PDF]

open access: yesACM SIGMETRICS Performance Evaluation Review, 2002
Overlay network distance monitoring and estimation system can benefit many new applications and services, such as peer-to-peer overlay routing and location. However, there is a lack of such scalable system with small overhead, good usability, and good distance estimation accuracy and stability.

Stability of a nonlinear Moving Horizon Estimator with pre-estimation [PDF]

open access: yes2014 American Control Conference, 2014
In this paper, a Moving Horizon Estimator with pre-estimation (MHE-PE) is proposed for discrete-time nonlinear systems under bounded noise. While the classical Moving Horizon Estimator (MHE) compensates for model errors by estimating the process noise sequence over the horizon via optimization, the MHE-PE does it using an auxiliary estimator.

Scalable Estimates of Concept Stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Data mining aims at finding interesting patterns from datasets, where ``interesting'' means reflecting intrinsic dependencies in the domain of interest rather than just in the dataset. Concept stability is a popular relevancy measure in FCA. Experimental results of this paper show that high stability of a concept for a context derived from the general ...

Stability estimates in inverse scattering [PDF]

open access: yesActa Applicandae Mathematicae, 1992
Mathematically rigorous inversion method is developed to recover compactly supported potentials from the fixed-energy scattering data in three dimensions. Error estimates are given for the solution. An algorithm for inversion of noisy discrete fixed-energy #D scattering data is developed and its error estimates are ...

New Estimates of Solution to Coupled System of Damped Wave Equations with Logarithmic External Forces

open access: yesJournal of Function Spaces, 2021
In the paper, we consider new stability results of solution to class of coupled damped wave equations with logarithmic sources in ℝn. We prove a new scenario of stability estimates by introducing a suitable Lyapunov functional combined with some ...

Asymptotic estimates and exponential stability for higher-order monotone difference equations

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2005
Asymptotic estimates are established for higher-order scalar difference equations and inequalities the right-hand sides of which generate a monotone system with respect to the discrete exponential ordering. It is shown that in some cases the exponential

On Stability Estimates for the Inviscid Boussinesq Equations

open access: yesJournal of Nonlinear Science, 2023
AbstractWe consider the (in)stability problem of the inviscid 2D Boussinesq equations near a combination of a shear flow $$v=(y,0)$$ v = ( y , 0 ) and a ...
