Baseline Regional Cholinergic Denervation Predicts Cognitive Trajectories in Moderate Parkinson Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Cognitive decline is a disabling and variable feature of Parkinson disease (PD). While cholinergic system degeneration is linked to cognitive impairments in PD, most prior research reported cross‐sectional associations. We aimed to fill this gap by investigating whether baseline regional cerebral vesicular acetylcholine transporter ...

Finite Larmor radius stabilized Z-pinches [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
The possibility of Finite-Larmor-Radius stabilization of a straight, diffuse, Z-pinch is considered using the FLR corrected MHD fluid equations. Stabilization of all MHD modes is indicated if a/sub i//a is sufficiently large. If a/sub i//a is too large, however, current-driven instabilities are found. Comparison with several experiments suggests that a

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

The Effect of Rounding in Bump Foil Structure on the Dynamic Performance of Foil Journal Bearings

open access: yesTribology Online, 2019
The performance of air foil journal bearings is closely related to the stiffness of the bump foil. In this paper, the stiffness characteristics of bump foil having a rounding in the structure are investigated and compared with previous models.

A Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
Block Diagram of the Robust Adaptive One‐Sample‐Ahead Preview Super‐Twisting Sliding Mode Controller. ABSTRACT This article introduces a discrete‐time robust adaptive one‐sample‐ahead preview super‐twisting sliding mode controller. A stability analysis of the controller by Lyapunov criteria is developed to demonstrate its robustness in handling both ...

Analytical approximations to the core radius and energy of magnetic vortex in thin ferromagnetic disks

open access: yes, 2013
The energy of magnetic vortex core and its equilibrium radius in thin circular cylinder were first presented by N.A. Usov and S.E. Peschany in 1994. Yet, the magnetostatic function, entering the energy expression, is hard to evaluate and approximate.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

On thin-shell wormholes evolving in flat FRW spacetimes

open access: yes, 2011
We analize the stability of a class of thin-shell wormholes with spherical symmetry evolving in flat FRW spacetimes. The wormholes considered here are supported at the throat by a perfect fluid with equation of state $\mathcal{P}=w\sigma$ and have a ...
