Stable Isotope Analysis of Giant Clam Shells

2022
Giant clams (Tridacninae) are important mollusks in Pacific and Indo-Pacific coral reefs. Like coral, they host a photosymbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae, which provide essential nutrition increasingly through life. Their shells are often isotopically assessed as [delta]18O values are used to reconstruct sea surface temperature.

Stable Isotope Analysis of the Bioelements: An Introduction

Bioanalysis, 2009
The abundances of the stable isotopes of the bioelements are not constant. Subtle, but significant, variations may be induced by physical, physiological and biochemical processes. These variations may be detected and quantified. Often, isotope fingerprints are characteristic of certain processes and may reveal information concerning the sources and ...

Metabolic pathway analysis of tumors using stable isotopes

Seminars in Cancer Biology
Metabolic reprogramming is pivotal in malignant transformation and cancer progression. Tumor metabolism is shaped by a complex interplay of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors that are not yet fully elucidated. It is of great value to unravel the complex metabolic activity of tumors in patients.

Stable isotope mass spectrometry in honey analysis

TrAC Trends in Analytical Chemistry, 1987
Abstract Honey is frequently subject to adulteration with relatively cheap high fructose corn syrup. Not only is this a serious consumer fraud but it is a major threat to the apicultural industry. Stable isotope ratio analysis using mass spectrometry may be used to detect honey that has been adulterated with high fructose corn syrup due to the fact ...

Stable Isotope Analysis in Roman Bioarchaeology

Chapter 4 provides an overview of stable isotope analysis, with a specific focus on carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and strontium, and outlines the pathways through which isotopes become part of human skeletal and dental tissues. Prowse also discusses how isotopes serve as tools for investigating diet, mobility, or geographic origins in the Roman world and ...
