Networked Stackelberg Competition in a Demand Response Market

Applied Energy, 2019
Abstract In the classical Cournot model, each firm tries to maximize its own payoff by deciding an optimal strategy for determining the quantity of goods produced during each time period–i.e. turn, of the game. In the typical application, all firms compete in the same market.

Locating vendors in Stackelberg competition in a linear monocentric city

2012 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC), 2012
The duopoly model of vendors in a linear open city is developed in order to analyze the equilibrium location of vendors in Stackelberg competition. It is shown that the equilibrium vendors' location is either clustered or dispersed? in the city depending on the relative sizes of shopping cost and commuting cost.

PRICE DISCRIMINATION IN STACKELBERG COMPETITION*

open access: yesThe Journal of Industrial Economics, 2009
We examine the effects of price discrimination in the Stackelberg competition model for the linear demand case. We show that the leader does not use any price discrimination at all. Rather, the follower does all price discrimination. The leader directs all of its first mover preemptive advantage to attract the highest value consumers who pay a ...

Public input competition under Stackelberg equilibrium: A note. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This paper examines the Stackelberg equilibrium for public input competition and compares it with the non-cooperative Nash equilibrium. Given two asymmetric regions, we show that under the Nash equilibrium, the more productive region tends to spend more on public input, which results in this region attracting more capital than the less productive ...

Cournot or Stackelberg competition? A survey on experimental evidence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In this survey, I look into experimental studies on duopolistic quantity competition with homogeneous products and duopolistic price competition with heterogeneous products. The focus is on the sequence of competition. That is, I summarize and analyze experimental studies checking Cournot competition against Stackelberg competition.

On the efficiency of networked Stackelberg competition

2017 51st Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS), 2017
We study the impact of strategic anticipative behavior in networked markets. We focus on the case of electricity markets and model the market as a game between a system operator (market maker) and generators at different nodes of the network. Generators submit quantity bids and the system operator balances demand and supply over the network subject to ...

Competition over epidemic networks: Nash and stackelberg games

2015 American Control Conference (ACC), 2015
We study the competition over epidemic networks within a game-theoretic framework. Based on the homogeneous n-intertwined Markov model for epidemic spread, we introduce a novel epidemic competition between a network designer and an intelligent adversary, where the designer can protect the network by increasing the curing rate and the adversary, on the ...
