Increase in stagnation pressure and enthalpy in shock tunnels [PDF]

open access: green31st Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 1993
A new technique based on the insertion of a converging section in the driven tube is described which is capable of producing substantial increases in both reservoir pressure and enthalpy. A 1D inviscid full kinetics code is used to study a number of different locations and shapes for the converging driven tube section.

Performance analysis of a rotating detonation combustor based on stagnation pressure measurements [PDF]

open access: yesCombustion and Flame, 2020
Abstract This study explores the effect of differing inlet and outlet boundary conditions on the operation and performance of a rotating detonation combustor (RDC) over an annulus mass flux range of 50 to 210  kg s − 1 m − 2 and equivalence ratios of 0.7, 1.0, and 1.3.

Rotating detonation combustor performance informed through a novel megahertz-rate stagnation pressure measurement [PDF]

open access: bronzeThe Physics of Fluids
An experimental stagnation pressure measurement technique is presented for a rotating detonation combustor (RDC). Schlieren imaging enables rotating detonation wave passage to be correlated with oscillations observed in the under-expanded exhaust plume ...

Magnetic Reconnection with Asymmetry in the Outflow Direction [PDF]

open access: yesMurphy, N. A., C. R. Sovinec, and P. A. Cassak (2010), Magnetic reconnection with asymmetry in the outflow direction, J. Geophys. Res., 115, A09206, 2009
Magnetic reconnection with asymmetry in the outflow direction occurs in the Earth's magnetotail, coronal mass ejections, flux cancellation events, astrophysical disks, spheromak merging experiments, and elsewhere in nature and the laboratory. A control volume analysis is performed for the case of steady antiparallel magnetic reconnection with ...

Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH): ischaemia, CSF stagnation or both [PDF]

open access: bronzeBrain, 2004
Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a clinical and radiographic syndrome first described by Hakim and Adams in 1965 (Hakim and Adams, 1965) and characterized clinically by gait apraxia (‘magnetic gait’), incontinence and dementia, and diagnosed predominantly among people over the age of 60 years. Only a minority of patients present with the complete

Aerothermodynamic Analysis of a Reentry Brazilian Satellite [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
This work deals with a computational investigation on the small ballistic reentry Brazilian vehicle SARA (acronyms for SAt\'elite de Reentrada Atmosf\'erica). Hypersonic flows over the vehicle SARA at zero-degree angle of attack in a chemical equilibrium and thermal non-equilibrium are modeled by the Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method, which ...

Ultra-relativistic, neutrino driven flows in GRBs: A double transonic flow solution in Schwarzschild spacetime [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The structure of a hydrodynamic, double transonic flow driven by neutrino annihilation in the polar region of a Schwarzschild black hole is computed for different energy deposition profiles. The requirement that both, the inflow into the black hole and the outflow to infinity pass smoothly through their sonic points fixes the stagnation radius and ...

CONSTRUCTAL DESIGN OF A VORTEX TUBE FOR SEVERAL INLET STAGNATION PRESSURES [PDF]

open access: bronzeRevista de Engenharia Térmica, 2012
The present paper shows a numerical study concerned with the geometrical optimization of a vortex tube device by means of Constructal Design for several inlet stagnation pressures. In the present study, it is evaluated a vortex tube with two-dimensional axisymmetric computational domain with dry air as the working fluid.

Mechanism and numerical simulation of pressure stagnation during water jetting perforation [PDF]

open access: bronzePetroleum Science, 2008
When perforating with an abrasive water jet, it is possible that the pressure in the hole (perforation) will be higher than that in the annulus because of water jet blasting against the hole wall, which also is the theoretical basis for the technology of hydro-jet fracturing.

Impact of sensor housing geometries on transient stagnation pressure measurements in impulse facilities

open access: hybridExperimental Thermal and Fluid Science, 2019
The measurement of transient stagnation pressure in impulse facilities, such as shock tubes and expansion tubes, is critical due to the limited experimental time window. In the present study, we investigate the characteristic behavior of pressure sensors shielded by blunt and conical housings, and evaluate the specific influence of the housing ...
