Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Transformation from hematoxylin-and-eosin staining to Ki-67 immunohistochemistry digital staining images using deep learning: experimental validation on the labeling index

open access: yesJournal of Medical Imaging
Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common types of cancer affecting women. While the hematoxylin-and-eosin (H&E) staining remains the standard for histological analysis, the immunohistochemistry (IHC) method provides molecular-level visualizations. Our study proposes a digital staining method to generate the hematoxylin-3,3'-diaminobenzidine (H-

Calcium‐sensing receptor induces the apoptosis of chondrocytes in cooperation with phosphate transporter

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Excess Ca2+ ions activate the Calcium‐Sensing Receptor (CaSR), which subsequently drives the uptake of excess inorganic phosphate (Pi) via the Pi transporter (Pit−1) in chondrocytes. This mechanism causes a toxic increase in intracellular Pi concentration, ultimately leading to chondrocyte apoptosis and pathological mineralization. Excess extracellular

Simultaneous demonstration of two antigens with immunogold-silver staining and immunoenzymatic labeling

open access: yes, 1993
A novel technique for independent and simultaneous labeling of two antigens expressed on individual cells (referred to as mixed labeling) is presented. The staining procedure combined three-step (streptavidin-biotin) immunogold-silver staining with three-step immunoenzymatic labeling.

Pathogenic Neurofibromatosis type 1 gene variants in tumors of non‐NF1 patients and role of R1276

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Somatic variants of the neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) gene occur across neoplasms without clinical manifestation of the disease NF1. We identified emerging somatic pathogenic NF1 variants and hotspots, for example, at the arginine finger 1276. Those missense variants provide fundamental information about neurofibromin's role in cancer.

Low-Cost, Label-Free Blue Light Cystoscopy through Digital Staining of White Light Cystoscopy Videos

open access: yesCommunications Medicine
AbstractBladder cancer is 10thmost common malignancy and carries the highest treatment cost among all cancers. The high cost of bladder cancer treatment stems from its high recurrence rate, which necessitates frequent surveillance. White light cystoscopy (WLC), the standard of care surveillance tool to examine the bladder for lesions, has limited ...

ATP13A2 is involved in intracellular polyamine transport in lung epithelial cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Spermidine transport in lung epithelial cells involves the polyamine transporter ATP13A2. Cell proliferation is associated with the upregulation of ATP13A2. Polyamines are present in all living cells and are implicated in various crucial cellular processes such as proliferation, apoptosis and autophagy.
