Pitting corrosion characteristics of sintered Type 316 L stainless steel: relationship between pores and MnS

open access: yesnpj Materials Degradation
In Type 316 L stainless steel fabricated from gas-atomized powder via spark plasma sintering, lack-of-fusion pores and MnS inclusions were identified as possible pitting initiation sites.

Effect of Oxygen and Nitrogen Oxide Gas Concentration on Corrosion of 310N Stainless Steel in Solar Salt at 600°C

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Schematic depicting corrosion layer formation and changes in stainless steel exposed to Solar Salt at 600°C for 1000 h under different atmospheres: (a) N2 accelerates salt decomposition, producing nitrite and oxide ions, causing severe corrosion. (b) Adding O2 reduces nitrite ions formation, resulting in less corrosion than N2 alone.

Experimental and Comparative Study of the Corrosion Behavior of Lean Duplex Stainless Steel in Seawater

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
The localized corrosion behavior of lean duplex stainless steel EN 1.4062 is systematically compared with austenitic and higher‐alloyed duplex grades in natural seawater. A clear resistance ranking is established, highlighting EN 1.4062 as a cost‐effective alternative for limited marine exposure.
