Active screen plasma surface engineering of austenitic stainless steel for enhanced tribological and corrosion properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Low temperature plasma surface engineering has been a useful method for increasing the hardness and wear resistance of austenitic stainless steel without reducing the corrosion resistance of this alloy.

Corrosion properties of active screen plasma nitrided 316 austenitic stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
AISI 316 austenitic stainless steel has been plasma nitrided using the active screen plasma nitriding (ASPN) technique. Corrosion properties of the untreated and AS plasma nitrided 316 steel have been evaluated using various techniques, including ...

Chromium Salt: A Review of Salt Formation, Hygroscopic Properties, and Impact on 316 L Corrosion in Hydrochloric Acid

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
This article examines the impact of externally introduced chromium compounds on the localized corrosion of 316 L stainless steel in acidic chloride environments such as hydrochloric acid. While the corrosion resistance of 316 L relies on the formation of a chromium‐rich passive oxide layer, industrial conditions may expose the steel to various chromium

Numerical and experimental analysis of anisotropic damage growth and martensitic phase change due to plastic strain at ambient temperature [PDF]

open access: yesمهندسی مکانیک شریف
This study investigates the anisotropic damage growth and martensitic phase transformation in AISI-316 austenitic stainless steel at room temperature. Initially, tensile and torsion tests were performed on samples at various displacements.

HELIUM EMBRITTLEMENT OF TYPE 316 STAINLESS STEEL.

open access: yes, 1968
Abstract : Helium was injected into small tensile samples of Type 316 stainless steel by alpha-particle irradiation from a cyclotron. Subsequent tensile testing in the temperature range 540 to 815 deg C revealed a loss of ductility, as measured by elongation at failure.

Nature of Surface Microcracks on Phosphorus Micro‐Alloyed Copper

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
SSRT tests and microscopic characterization methods were used to study the effect of plastic deformation and environment on the formation of surface microcracks on Cu‐OFP. Results show that, while ambient conditions produced thousands of microcracks per mm2, exposure to sulfide water resulted in fewer microcracks with no evidence of crack growth ...

Corrosion Inhibition of S275 Carbon Steel in CO2 Capture Systems Using Monoethanolamine (MEA) Solvent

open access: yesMaterials and Corrosion, EarlyView.
Corrosion inhibitors CuSO4 and NaVO3 achieved up to 98% inhibition efficiency for carbon steel S275 in CO2‐loaded MEA solvent, reducing corrosion rates to 9.4 µm/year—outperforming costly stainless steel SS 316 L at a fraction of the cost. ABSTRACT Corrosion in CO2 capture units significantly impacts safety and costs.
