Ultrasound Modulation of Visual Circuits in Mice Independent of Auditory Confound

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, Qiu et al. found that low‐intensity ultrasound can directly activate sparse ultrasound‐sensitive neurons (UNs) in the primary visual cortex (V1) of deafened mice. The proportion of these sparse UNs is pressure‐dependent. Furthermore, ultrasound modulates visual circuitry with distinct excitatory and inhibitory effects.

Open loop control of a stepping motor with step loss detection and stall detection using back-EMF based load angle estimation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Stepping motors are the most used electrical machines for low power positioning. The drive controls the machine so that the rotor performs a fixed angular displacement after each step command pulse.

Mitochondrial CircRNA CircMT‐RNR2 Safeguards Antioxidant Defense to Support Fibroblast Functions in Wound Repair

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CircMT‐RNR2 promotes wound healing by enhancing fibroblast proliferation, migration, contraction, and extracellular matrix (ECM) production. It sustains mitochondrial redox balance by stabilizing the antioxidant protein PRDX3, thereby reducing ROS‐induced damage. In diabetic foot ulcers, hypoxia, hyperglycemia, and reduced FGF2 and EGF expression lower

Analysis of the development of dynamic stall based on oscillating airfoil experiments [PDF]

open access: yes
The effects of dynamic stall on airfoils oscillating in pitch were investigated by experimentally determining the viscous and inviscid characteristics of the airflow on the NACA 0012 airfoil and on several leading-edge modifications.

Aerofoil behaviour at high angles of attack and at Reynolds numbers appropriate for small wind turbines [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The aerodynamic characteristics of a NACA0018 aerofoil have been investigated experimentally for incidence angles ranging from 0° to 180° in closed-jet and open-jet wind tunnels with different blockage coefficients at Reynolds numbers from 60,000 to 140 ...

Mapping Genetic Regulation of Transcription to Identify Functional Variants and Genes Associated with Pancreatic Cancer Risk

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integration of a pancreatic eQTL map with a GWAS meta‐analysis identifies 82 putative functional variants and 15 genes. The association between rs11102484 and pancreatic cancer risk is observed in a total of 5699 cases and 8467 controls. The G allele of rs11102484 weakens ZNF263 binding and the silencer‐promoter interaction, thereby increasing ST7L ...

A flight investigation of the ultra-deep-stall descent and spin recovery characteristics of a 1/6 scale radiocontrolled model of the Piper PA38 Tomahawk [PDF]

open access: yes
Ultradeep stall descent and spin recovery characteristics of a 1/6 scale radio controlled model of the Piper PA38 Tomahawk aircraft was investigated. It was shown that the full scale PA38 is a suitable aircraft for conducting ultradeep stall research ...

DMAP1 Deficiency Suppresses Lung Cancer Progression by Destabilizing Replication Fork and Activating IFN Signaling‐Mediated Anti‐tumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lung cancer remains the leading cause of cancer‐related death. We investigated the role of the epigenetic regulator DMAP1 in NSCLC and found that its loss induces replication stress and DNA damage. This in turn activates type I IFN signaling via the cGAS–STING pathway and transcriptional ISG de‐repression, enhancing anti‐tumor immune responses ...

Predicting Beef Fatty Acid Composition from Diet and Plasma Profiles Using Multivariate Models

open access: yesAnimals
The nutritional value of beef is highly influenced by its fatty acid composition. This study evaluated whether diet proximate analyses or plasma fatty acid profiles could predict the meat fatty acid composition in young beef cattle finished at pasture or
