Predicting stall and post-stall behavior of airfoils at low Mach numbers

AIAA Journal, 1995
An interactive boundary-layer method, together with the e"approach to the calculation of transition, is used to predict the stall and post-stall behavior of airfoils in incompressible and compressible flows at low freestream Mach numbers. Two separate inviscid methods—a panel method with compressibility corrections and a full potential method—are used ...

Stall Inception Behavior in a Centrifugal Compressor

Volume 1: Turbomachinery, 1994
In studying the stall inception process, while most results were reported for axial compressors, the present paper investigates the stall inception behavior typified in a centrifugal compressor. The test was conducted with a radially-bladed impeller and in a speed range of 8000–14000 rpm.

Dynamic stall behavior from unsteady force measurements

Journal of Fluids and Structures, 2008
Abstract A direct force measurement technique employing piezoelectric load cells is used to experimentally investigate a two-dimensional airfoil (NACA 0012) undergoing dynamic stall. The load cells are installed at each end of the airfoil and give the force response in two directions in the plane normal to the airfoil axis during oscillations ...

Flight determination of configurational effects on aircraft stall behavior

21st Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, 1996
The objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of changes in aircraft's configuration, such as those caused by a deflected flap or a landing gear, on its stall characteristics. To this end, stall model in statespace is extended to account for asymmetric unsteady effects and applied to quasisteady and dynamic stall maneuvers for different ...

Behavior of Dairy Cattle in Free Stall Housing

Transactions of the ASAE, 1984
ABSTRACT TIME lapse photography was used to record the behavior of ten lactating dairy cows housed together during cold weather in a free stall barn. Frames of movie film were exposed at 2-min intervals for three periods of five days each. Location and activity data were recorded for each cow, and computer analyzed for frequency and duration.

Techniques for Tailoring Aircraft Stall and Post-Stall Behavior

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1993
<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper briefly reviews existing experimental and analytical techniques applied extensively to military configurations operating in stalled flight. As a consequence of these efforts, the fighter flight envelope has been expanded well beyond wing stall without encountering departures from controlled flight.< ...

Post Stall Propeller Behavior at Low Reynolds Numbers

46th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2008
Limited data exists for propeller and wind turbine post stall aerodynamics. Post stall aerodynamics was observed in small propellers at low Reynolds numbers. First, performance data (thrust, power, and efficiency) for a set variable pitch propellers was acquired in a wind tunnel. The propellers were 6 to 9.9 inches in diameter and were able to pitch to

Prediction of stall and post-stall behavior of airfoils at low and high Reynolds numbers

11th Applied Aerodynamics Conference, 1993
An interactive boundary-layer method, together with the e(super n)-approach to the calculation of transition, has been used to predict the stall and post-stall behavior of airfoils at low and high Reynolds numbers. The turbulence model is based on the Cebeci-Smith algebraic eddy-viscosity formulation with improvements for strong pressure gradient ...

The Unsteady Pre-Stall Behavior of the Spike-Type Rotating Stall Within an Airfoil Vaned-Diffuser

Volume 2A: Turbomachinery, 2018
The spike-type rotating stall (RS) inception inside the vaned-diffuser, which seriously restricts the performance range and brings the problems of blade fatigue, still seems to be a ‘mystery’ since its randomness. The paper intends to explain the mechanisms of this stall inception.

Effects of Farrowing Stall Layout on Piglet Productivity and Behavior

Iowa State University Animal Industry Report, 2022
This large-scale field study evaluated the effects farrowing stall environment on piglet productivity and behavior. Three farrowing stall layouts were tested (T – traditional, C – expanded creep area, S – expanded sow area) in conjunction with one or two heat lamps (1HL or 2HL).
