A simple test for normality for time series [PDF]
This paper considers testing for normality for correlated data. The proposed test procedure employs the skewness-kurtosis test statistic, but studentized by standard error estimators that are consistent under serial dependence of the observations.

A fixed count sampling estimator of stem density based on a survival function
In fixed count sampling (FCS) a fixed number (k) of observations is made at n randomly selected sample locations. For estimation of stem density, the distance from a random sample location to the k nearest trees was measured.

In-class activity comparing standard errors as a function of sample size with SPSS [PDF]
This vignette presents an in-class demonstration to introduce the notion of standard error. The students must be able to compute means using SPSS. They must also be able to eye-ball standard deviation from a list of numbers.

Improved method for assessing incidence of Citrus tristeza virus in large scale monitoring
Citrus tristeza virus (CTV) induces typical quick decline when citrus trees are grafted onto the sour orange. The virus is efficiently vectored by different aphid species. Large scale CTV monitoring and eradication requires a precise sampling and testing

All-optical logic circuits based on polarization properties of nondegenerate four-wave mixing [PDF]
All-optical logic circuits based on the polarization properties of nondegenerate four-wave mixing are proposed. Schemes to perform multiple triple-product logic functions are discussed, and it is shown that higher-level Boolean operations that involve ...

Computation of Standard Errors [PDF]
ObjectivesWe discuss the problem of computing the standard errors of functions involving estimated parameters and provide the relevant computer code for three different computational approaches using two popular computer packages.Study DesignWe show how to compute the standard errors of several functions of interest: the predicted value of the ...
