The Measurement of Quality of Semantic Standards: the Application of a Quality Model on the SETU standard for eGovernment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
eGovernment interoperability should be dealt with using high-quality standards. A quality model for standards is presented based on knowledge from the software engineering domain. In the tradition of action research the model is used on the SETU standard,

Analysing the optical network unit power consumption in the 10 GB‐capable passive optical network systems

open access: yesIET Networks, 2016
The standardisation of the 10 GB‐capable passive optical network (XG‐PON) system is accompanied by a rigorous set of recommendations. Power reduction in XG‐PONs is considered a quite important topic by the telecommunication standardisation sector (ITU‐T),

Standardising dental processes [PDF]

open access: yesBritish Dental Journal, 2009
A global transformation is taking place in dentistry with the use of CADCAM based technology. Whilst the headlines in the dental press continue to be dominated by precision fitting ceramic dental prostheses it is reasonable for us to ask--how well do they fit and how good are they?

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Clinical requirements for extracellular vesicle assays

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, 2019
The scientific and clinical interest in extracellular vesicles (EV) has grown exponentially during the past 15 years. As most research indicates that EVs can be utilised in diagnostics, prognostics and therapeutics, we may be on the brink of establishing

On suitable codes for frame synchronisation in packet radio LANs [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Standardisation bodies in Europe and North America are currently developing standards for high data rate packet radio LANs. Radio LANs will have two main applications: wired LAN replacement and ad-hoc networking.

Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

RaMBat: Accurate identification of medulloblastoma subtypes from diverse data sources with severe batch effects

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
To integrate multiple transcriptomics data with severe batch effects for identifying MB subtypes, we developed a novel and accurate computational method named RaMBat, which leveraged subtype‐specific gene expression ranking information instead of absolute gene expression levels to address batch effects of diverse data sources.
