Modified Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index: spatiotemporal analysis of drought

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2023
Drought monitoring is a complicated issue as it requires multiple meteorological variables to monitor and anticipate drought accurately. Therefore, developing a method that enables researchers, data scientists, and planners to comprehend drought ...

Drought Analysis Using the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI)

open access: yesActa Geographica Slovenica, 2017
Drought indices are commonly used for detection, monitoring and evaluation of drought events. One of the most commonly used drought indices is the Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI).

Drought forecasting using W-ARIMA model with standardized precipitation index

open access: yesJournal of Water and Climate Change, 2023
Climate change and water supply shortages are paramount global concerns. Drought, a complex and often underestimated phenomenon, profoundly affects various aspects of human life. Thus, early drought forecasting is crucial for strategic planning and water

Spatiotemporal climate variability and meteorological drought characterization in Ethiopia

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk, 2022
Increasing drought patterns with profound effects on livelihoods and food security have been documented in Ethiopia. From previous studies', assessments at various timescales, Ethiopia is regarded as a drought-prone country in East Africa. However, there

Drought monitoring in Croatia using the standardized precipitation-evapotranspiration index

open access: yesGeofizika, 2023
Several periods of drought in the 21st century have severely affected large parts of Europe and caused considerable economic losses, particularly in the agricultural and energy sectors. While rainfall deficits are one of the main causes of droughts, high temperatures in the summer months exacerbate their development, which can have devastating ...

Assessment of the impacts of climate change on drought intensity and frequency using SPI and SPEI in the Southern Pre-Balkash region, Kazakhstan

open access: yesWatershed Ecology and the Environment
This paper presents a study of droughts in the South Pre-Balkash region that considers climate change and its impact on the intensity and frequency of drought periods. The main objective of this study is to assess changes in climatic parameters and their

The evaluation of drought indices: Standard Precipitation Index, Standard Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index, and Palmer Drought Severity Index in Cilacap-Central Java

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019
Abstract The Cilacap Regency-Central Java, is the largest agricultural area with a high level of drought vulnerability. This study aims to evaluate three indices in quantifying a drought condition in Cilacap Regency and its application in forecasting.

Comparative Assessment of Standard Precipitation Index and Standard Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index as Drought Evaluation Tools in Coastal Winneba-Ghana

open access: yesJournal of Geography, Environment and Earth Science International, 2021
In coastal Winneba-Ghana, drought occurrence negatively affects the ecosystems and agriculture and threatens food security and socio-economic livelihoods. Nevertheless, there exist dearth of information on a detailed statistical evaluation of drought indices over this area.

Response Time of Vegetation to Drought in Weihe River Basin, China

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
Frequent droughts may have negative influences on the ecosystem (i.e., terrestrial vegetation) under a warming climate condition. In this study, the linear regression method was first used to analyze trends in vegetation change (normalized difference ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
