SPI - Standardized Precipitation Index from CRU / ECAD for EU and USA

open access: yes, 2011
The "Standardized Precipitation Index" (SPI) is used to describe extremely dry or wet climate situations. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recommends, that all national meteorological and hydrological services should use the SPI for ...

Characterisation of Drought and Wet Events in the Paraíba do Sul River Basin—Brazil

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Trend analysis identified statistically significant reductions in precipitation (at the 5% significance level) at specific pluviometric stations in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, while other areas, mainly in Minas Gerais, experienced significant increases in annual and seasonal rainfall, particularly during summer and spring. These significant trends at

Spatial-temporal variation and impacts of drought in Xinjiang (Northwest China) during 1961–2015 [PDF]

open access: yesPeerJ, 2018
Observations indicate that temperature and precipitation patterns changed dramatically in Xinjiang, northwestern China, between 1961 and 2015. Dramatic changes in climatic conditions can bring about adverse effects.

Assessment of Seasonal Rainfall Drought Indices, Nyala City Sudan

open access: yesAgriculture, 2022
Drought is an unpredictable hydrological phenomenon, and climate change has made it difficult to predict and analyze droughts. Nyala city airport metrological station rainfall records from 1943 to 2017 (75 years) were investigated.

Projections of Meteorological Drought and Potential Evapotranspiration Using the RegCM4 Over Northeastern Iran

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
We downscale CanESM2 with the Regional Climate Model version 4 (20 km) and evaluate against 15 stations to derive monthly PET (Hargreaves–Samani) and SPEI for northeastern Iran (1990–2009, 2040–2059, 2080–2099). Results show robust PET increases and a shift toward more negative monthly SPEI—especially April–September—indicating earlier onset and longer

Evolutionary polynomial modeling for interpretable drought prediction and resilient resource management

open access: yesEcological Informatics
Droughts are natural hazards that exist in nature and can have a serious impact on the environment and society, which includes water shortages, crop failures, fires and, in some cases, soil manipulation.

Improved sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis method for quantifying the 11S/7S ratio in soybean storage proteins

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Accurate quantification of soybean storage protein subunits glycinin (11S) and β‐conglycinin (7S), and their ratio (11S/7S), is essential for applications in plant breeding, food processing, and allergen research. Although sodium dodecyl sulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS‐PAGE) is widely used due to its accessibility ...

Homologous recombination mutants cause differing lethality between h− and h+ Schizosaccharomyces pombe strains due to mat1 heterochromatin

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Homologous recombination (HR) in Schizosaccharomyces pombe is essential when mating‐type switching–induced double‐strand breaks (DSBs) form at the mat1 locus. In h90 and h− strains, efficient mat1 DSB formation renders HR indispensable unless suppressors block these breaks.
