ABSTRACT Soil organic carbon density (SOCD) is a key indicator for evaluating the stability of soil carbon pools, especially in alpine ecosystems that are sensitive to climate change. However, research on the response of SOCD to different aridity gradients is still limited. Therefore, we conducted extensive sampling along different aridity gradients of

Global Flash Drought Prediction Through Evaporative Stress Forecasting
Abstract Flash droughts pose severe risks to societies and ecosystems due to their sudden onset and rapid intensification. Predicting their vegetation impacts at subseasonal timescales remains difficult. Advances in hybrid physics‐AI models and weather forecasting create new opportunities to enhance the predictability of evaporative stress, a key ...

Analysis of precipitation and draughts on bih territory based upon standardized precipitation index (SPI) [PDF]
Most frequent indicator of the meteorological draught is the standardized precipitation index (SPI). This paper analyses SPI at 8 weather stations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The calculations were perfomred per a calendar year and weather seasons between 1961 and 2010.

Upcycling Bio and Battery Waste Into Multivalent Calcium–Manganese Oxide Nanocomposites
Waste eggshells and spent alkaline batteries are transformed into multivalent Ca–Mn nanocomposites for CO oxidation. Correlative in situ XRD, STEM‐EELS, and XPS reveal how composition controls phase evolution, surface chemistry, and redox properties, identifying the structural features responsible for enhanced catalytic activity.

We downscale CanESM2 with the Regional Climate Model version 4 (20 km) and evaluate against 15 stations to derive monthly PET (Hargreaves–Samani) and SPEI for northeastern Iran (1990–2009, 2040–2059, 2080–2099). Results show robust PET increases and a shift toward more negative monthly SPEI—especially April–September—indicating earlier onset and longer

Are Modern Droughts Unprecedented?
Abstract Global drought variability of past centuries remains poorly understood due to sparse instrumental records and limited paleoclimate reconstructions. Yet, quantifying long‐term forced and unforced variability is key for assessing the extremeness of modern (2000–2024) drought events.
