Pipe Diameter and End Correction of a Resonant Standing Wave

open access: yes, 2011
To investigate the relationship between the diameter of a pipe and the end correction of a standing wave created in the pipe, five plastic pipes with different diameters were cut to 0.402 m in length.

Standing Waves for Acoustic Levitation

open access: yes, 2020
Standing waves are the most popular method to achieve acoustic trapping. Particles with greater acoustic impedance than the propagation medium will be trapped at the pressure nodes of a standing wave. Acoustic trapping can be used to hold particles of various materials and sizes, without the need of a close-loop controlling system.

White Matter Microstructural Abnormalities in Neonatal Onset Genetic Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Recent evidence indicates that epilepsy is associated with abnormal white matter. If seizures alter white matter, then the impact upon network function, epileptogenesis, and cognition could be pronounced in neonates undergoing rapid developmental myelination. Neonates with epilepsy due to nonstructural genetic causes provide a unique

Subclinical Optic Nerve Involvement in Radiologically Isolated Syndrome: Multimodal Detection and Diagnostic Impact

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives We aimed to determine the frequency of subclinical optic nerve (ON) lesions using MRI, optical coherence tomography (OCT), and visual evoked potentials (VEP) in radiologically isolated syndrome (RIS), and to assess their diagnostic and prognostic significance.

Prominent Movement Disorders in RNU2‐2‐Related Spliceosomopathy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Pediatric movement disorders often overlap with neurodevelopmental diseases, suggesting shared molecular mechanisms. Variants in small nuclear RNA (snRNA) genes encoding spliceosome components have recently been associated with neurodevelopmental disorders, termed “RNUopathies.” We analyzed genome sequencing data from 14 patients with ...

Demo 09-25 Slinky Standing Waves

open access: yes, 2001
The suspended Slinky spring shown in Demonstration #15 on this disc can be used to illustrate standing waves. If the end of the spring is oscillated at the resonant frequency of one of the standing wave modes of the Slinky, a standing wave will be ...

Timoshenko beam theory: A perspective based on the wave-mechanics approach

open access: yes, 2015
This paper reviews Timoshenko beam theory from the point of view of wave mechanics. Vibration of beam structures can be studied in terms of either normal modes or propagating waves. The latter wave approach has two distinct features: first, it gives rise

Simple experiments of standing wave in tubes

open access: yesRevista de Enseñanza de la Física, 2010
This article presents a set of 3 experiments to study standing waves using low cost materials (an ordinarycomputer with a normal sound board is needed).
