Cognitive and Neuroimaging Divergence Between Juvenile and Adult FUS Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive motor neuron degeneration. Fused in sarcoma (FUS)‐associated juvenile ALS (jALS) represents a distinct and aggressive subgroup with rapid deterioration and poor prognosis.

Reflectionless standing-wave operation in microring resonators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We demonstrate a scheme for microring resonators to operate as standing-wave resonators while eliminating reflections and maintaining traveling-wave-resonator-like p-n junction microring modulators to achieve higher performance than other junction ...

Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

Sound reduction of side-branch resonators: An energy-based theoretical perspective

open access: yesAIP Advances
For over a century, side-branch resonators have served as effective acoustic filters, yet the explanation for their sound reduction capability has varied.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Demo 09-24 Longitudinal Standing Waves

open access: yes, 2001
The longitudinal wave machine in Demonstration #14 on this disc can be used to illustrate standing waves. The end bar is moved back and forth at the resonant frequency of the standing wave, creating the standing waves as illustrated in Figure ...

Investigation into the Strouhal numbers associated with vortex shedding from parallel-plate thermoacoustic stacks in oscillatory flow conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This paper investigates vortex shedding processes occurring at the end of a stack of parallel plates, due to an oscillating flow induced by an acoustic standing wave.

Standing-wave atom tweezer

open access: yesOptics Express
We report on the experimental realization of a standing-wave atom tweezer (SWAT) by aligning tightly focused dipole laser beams from a commercial objective lens and a metalens on a chip. By independently tuning the laser intensities of the two beams, we demonstrate the controlled loading of multiple atoms into the SWAT.

Rheumatoid Arthritis and Coronary Artery Calcium Progression: A Case Cohort Analysis From ELSA‐Brasil

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective To investigate the association between rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and coronary artery calcium (CAC) prevalence, incidence, and progression over four years in adults without prior cardiovascular disease. Methods A case‐cohort study within the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA‐Brasil) included 585 participants (86 patients with ...
