Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

The design and modeling of a lateral acoustic particle manipulator exhibiting quarter-wave operation

open access: yes, 2008
Prior work [Petersson et al., 2004] has demonstrated the operation of a half-wave acoustic particle manipulator, whose forces act in the plane of a silicon substrate. In a half-wave device particles are directed to the centre of a channel. Devices acting

Simulated holographic three-dimensional intensity shaping of evanescent-wave fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The size of bright structures in traveling-wave light fields is limited by diffraction. This in turn limits a number of technologies, for example, optical trapping.

Phase holograms for the three-dimensional patterning of unconstrained microparticles

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Acoustic radiation forces can remotely manipulate particles. Forces from a standing wave field align microscale particles along the nodal or anti-nodal locations of the field to form three-dimensional (3D) patterns.

Excitation of an extreme wave by standing current

open access: yesOceanologia, 2023
The statistics suggest that extreme waves cause more damage in shallow waters and at the coast than in the deep sea. In the linear theory of the formation of extreme waves, their existence is interpreted as a local superposition of surface monochromatic ...

New Standing Solitary Waves in Water [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2011
By means of the parametric excitation of water waves in a Hele-Shaw cell, we report the existence of two new types of highly localized, standing surface waves of large amplitude. They are, respectively, of odd and even symmetry. Both standing waves oscillate subharmonically with the forcing frequency. The two-dimensional even pattern presents a certain

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Numerical computation for parallel plate thermoacoustic heat exchangers in standing wave oscillatory flow [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A simplified computational method for studying the heat transfer characteristics of parallel plate thermoacoustic heat exchangers is presented. The model integrates the thermoacoustic equations of the standard linear theory into an energy balance-based ...

Analysis and Application of Screens for Acoustic Impedance in a Speaker Box with a Passive Radiator to Decrease Standing-Wave Influence

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
Micro speakers are playing an increasingly important role with the development of multimedia devices. This study applies the lumped-parameter method, which uses an equivalent circuit to model the electromagnetic and mechanical domains.

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
