Integration of Serum Neurofilament Light Chain and Cortical Dysfunction Improves Diagnostic Accuracy in ALS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To determine whether integration of serum neurofilament light chain (NfL) and cortical dysfunction improves diagnostic accuracy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) when applied alongside the Gold Coast criteria (GCC). Methods In this prospective study, 148 participants with suspected ALS were recruited (101 ALS and 47 with ALS ...

A silicon microfluidic ultrasonic separator

open access: yes, 2002
Ultrasonic standing waves can be used to generate forces on particles within a fluid. Such forces have a number of potential applications in microfluidic devices. This paper describes such a device providing filtration on a microfluidic scale.

Artificial Intelligence in Systemic Sclerosis: Clinical Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a rare autoimmune disease defined by immune dysregulation, vasculopathy, and progressive fibrosis of the skin and internal organs. Despite advances in care, major complications such as interstitial lung disease (ILD) and myocardial involvement remain the leading causes of morbidity and mortality.

Nearly inviscid Faraday waves in containers with broken symmetry

open access: yes, 2005
In the weakly inviscid regime parametrically driven surface gravity-capillary waves generate oscillatory viscous boundary layers along the container walls and the free surface.

Animation showing reflection of water waves to form standing waves

open access: yes, 2008
This animation requires Adobe flashThis animation illustrates the use of reflections of water waves to produce standing waves. The reflection coefficient can be varied to produce various mixes of standing and traveling waves. The phasors are also shown.

Standing-wave atom tweezer

open access: yesOptics Express
We report on the experimental realization of a standing-wave atom tweezer (SWAT) by aligning tightly focused dipole laser beams from a commercial objective lens and a metalens on a chip. By independently tuning the laser intensities of the two beams, we demonstrate the controlled loading of multiple atoms into the SWAT.
