Stapedotomy Versus Stapedectomy
Otology & Neurotology, 2009The postoperative results in 392 otosclerotic ears were analyzed. Stapedotomy with wire Teflon piston does not increase the risk of postoperative fistula formation in comparison to stapedectomy with tissue graft sealing. Stapedotomy with a 0.4 mm wire Teflon piston yields poorer results in the lower frequencies 3 weeks postoperatively but results as ...

Phonophobia After Stapedectomy
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1969Phonophobia is defined as an abnormal discomfort for suprathreshold sound which does not annoy healthy individuals. Clinical Otolaryngology, 1985
The relationship between vestibular and cochlear function in stapedectomy was investigated in 722 patients (925 ears). There were no differences in hearing between patients with and without pre-operative complaints of vertigo. Post-operatively patients with long lasting vertigo obtained equally good hearing results as the others.

The history of stapedectomy dates back to the late 19th century. Although otologists in both the United States and Europe were performing stapedectomy operations at the turn of the century, stapes surgery ceased in the early 1900s. This paper examines the early and recent history of stapes surgery.

Electronystagmography after Stapedectomy
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 1973The aim of this study was to assess the persistent vestibular changes after stapedectomy as shown by electronystagmography. Sixty-two otosclerotic ears were studied before and after stapedectomy for vertigo, spontaneous and positional nystagmus with closed eyes and intensity of caloric responses.
