Measurements of the Stapes Superstructure

Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, 1995
Ten human stapes from fresh temporal bones were measured to obtain relevant distances of the stapes superstructure. The dimensions of the parts of the superstructure are as follows: 1) stapes head 1.14 mm (range, 0.91 to 1.49) in diameter parallel to the axis of the footplate and 0.83 mm (range, 0.65 to 1.08) perpendicular to it; 2) stapes head to ...

An unusual stapes

Surgical and Radiologic Anatomy, 2006
We present a case of a highly unusual stapes in the presence of a normal external ear. The stapes exhibits rudimentary anterior crus with abnormally shaped posterior crus that attached to the mid-portion of a fixed, rudimentary footplate. To our knowledge, this anomaly has not been previously documented.

The Use Of Allograft Stapes

Auris Nasus Larynx, 1985
Since 1981, we have used the stapes allograft, singly or in combination with homograft incus, in 20 cases of tympanoplasty and in 7 cases of fixed stapes. All of the allograft stapes discussed were procured, processed and stored in 1980 by the Hyogo Ear Bank, the first to be established in Japan.

Neuroleptanalgesia for Stapes Surgery

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1968
OPERATIONS for otosclerosis have been generally performed using a combination of heavy premedication and local anaesthesia. When fenestrations were in vogue, general anaesthesia was usually employed. With the advent of stapedectomy, otologists preferred to have a rousable, awake, and cooperative patient.

The Stapes Gusher

Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1973
The "gusher" is a dramatic complication of stapes surgery. The smallest control hole in the foot plate can produce a flow of perilymph (cerebrospinal fluid) so profuse as to fill the middle ear and external auditory canal within seconds. What is the origin of this abnormal communication between the perilymphatic and subarachnoid spaces? The purpose of

The Nurse and Stapes Procedure

AORN Journal, 1968
Meticulous aseptic technique must be used in every phase of surgery of the ear. There are few surgeries which are more dependent upon detail and consequently stapes procedures are always exacting. When understood and practiced in detail the nurse’s contribution makes the task of the skillful otologic surgeon immeasurably easier.
