Operon structure of Staphylococcus aureus [PDF]

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 2010
In bacteria, gene regulation is one of the fundamental characteristics of survival, colonization and pathogenesis. Operons play a key role in regulating expression of diverse genes involved in metabolism and virulence. However, operon structures in pathogenic bacteria have been determined only by in silico approaches that are dependent on factors such ...

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA): antibiotic-resistance and the biofilm phenotype.

open access: yesMedChemComm, 2019
Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is an asymptomatic colonizer of 30% of all human beings. While generally benign, antibiotic resistance contributes to the success of S. aureus as a human pathogen.

Electrical Impedance Tomography Monitoring of Salt Transportation in Cellulose Hydrogel for Solar‐Driven Evaporative Desalination via Laser Defined Wettability

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solar‐driven evaporation is a promising solution to the global water crisis; however, it faces a significant challenge of salt accumulation during the evaporation process. This study introduces an innovative in situ electrical impedance tomography technique for real‐time monitoring of salt transportation in the evaporator.

Probiotic‐Based Mineralized Living Materials to Produce Antimicrobial Yogurts

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
The self‐assembly and mineralization of collagen in the presence of probiotics produces hybrid living materials that hosts and protects the cells. Intra‐ and interfibrillar mineralization of collagen fibers, as occurring in bone, results, respectively, in a bulk and single‐cell protective layer of cells, that survive in simulated gastric conditions and,

Growth Pattern of Magnetic Field Treated Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yesPublished in Current Microbiology (Nov.27, 2019), 2018
A study of the induced effect of different types of weak magnetic field exposure on bacterial growth is performed, comparing the relative changes after removal from the magnetic fields. This investigation is relevant to understand the effect of magnetic field exposure on human beings due to electronic devices.

Unlocking the Gates: A Novel Diagnostic Molecule for Quantifying Efflux Levels in Gram‐Positive Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Efflux‐mediated resistance compromises antibiotic efficacy, yet rapid detection remains elusive. This study presents a novel phenazinium‐based diagnostic molecule for quantifying bacterial efflux levels in Gram‐positive pathogens. The optimized compound enables precise, real‐time efflux assessment using fluorescence and colorimetric techniques ...

Automated image segmentation and division plane detection in single live Staphylococcus aureus cells [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Staphylococcus aureus is a coccal bacterium, which divides by binary fission. After division the cells remain attached giving rise to small clusters, with a characteristic 'bunch of grapes' morphology. S. aureus is an important human pathogen and this, combined with the increasing prevalence of antibiotic-resistant strains, such as Methicillin ...
