Multilocus Sequence Typing of Staphylococcus epidermidis

2013
Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) is a genotyping method that is well suited for studying the population genetics and evolution of Staphylococcus epidermidis. The central MLST database for S. epidermidis continues to grow, and new analysis methods for extracting historical information from MLST data continue to be developed.

Staphylococcus epidermidis endocarditis and Staphylococcus epidermidis infection in an intensive care unit.

Scandinavian journal of infectious diseases. Supplementum, 1984
Staphylococcus epidermidis are the most common agents of prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE). S. epidermidis isolated from the blood stream of patients with PVE are almost invariably multiple resistant to antibiotics. Antibiotic treatment alone gives unsatisfactory results and carries a mortality rate of 70-80%.
