Femininity, stardom and the everyday : a comparative account of the French female cinema star and the Hollywood female cinema star in French cultural discourses of the 1950s..

open access: yes, 2002
PhDThis thesis explores the links between ideology, stardom, nationality and the everyday. It argues that as France underwent rapid economic expansion and technical modernisation in the 1950s, everyday life was subsequently rendered `unfamiliar ...

The dynamics of ringed small bodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In 2013, the startling discovery of a pair of rings around the Centaur 10199 Chariklo opened up a new subfield of astronomy - the study of ringed small bodies.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

On directly additive selectors for convex and star bodies

open access: yes, 2004
The paper deals with direct additivity of selectors, as well for convex as for star bodies. Sections 3 and 4 concern selectors for convex bodies. In Section 5 two methods of extending a selector for convex bodies to a selector for star bodies are ...

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Radial continuous valuations on star bodies and star sets

open access: yes, 2016
We show that a radial continuous valuation defined on the $n$-dimensional star bodies extends uniquely to a continuous valuation on the $n$-dimensional bounded star sets. Moreover, we provide an integral representation of every such valuation, in terms of the radial function, which is valid on the dense subset of the simple Borel star sets.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

CCD polarimetry as a probe of regions of recent star-formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 1988
Chapter 1 of this thesis details the incorporation of a Charged Coupled Device (CCD) detector system with the Durham Imaging Polarimeter. The details include the physical characteristics of the device and the electronics and software associated with the ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
