Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

On the nature of the black-body stars
A selection of 17 stars in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, previously identified as DC class white dwarfs (WDs), has been reported to show spectra very close to blackbody radiation in the wavelength range from ultraviolet to infrared. Due to the absence of lines and other details in their spectra, the surface gravity of these objects has not been ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

On modelling the surfaces of celestial bodies in quantum gravity
We discuss how to model the surface of celestial bodies (such as stars) in quantum gravity to ensure the regularity of quantum corrections to classical solutions of general relativity at the surface of such bodies.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Many-body Forces in Magnetic Neutron Stars
Abstract In this work, we study in detail the effects of many-body forces on the equation of state and the structure of magnetic neutron stars. The stellar matter is described within a relativistic mean field formalism that takes into account many-body forces by means of a nonlinear meson field dependence on the nuclear interaction ...

The cultural significance of the child star
This thesis was submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy and awarded by Brunel University. This study provides a sociological account of the child star as both a universal and culturally specific phenomenon. Arguing against dominant 'common-sense'

Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.
