The Gaia Attitude Star Catalog

Astronomy and Computing, 2016
Abstract We describe the Attitude Star Catalog produced for the Gaia mission. This catalog is being used by Gaia for the first on-ground attitude reconstruction. Originally it was simply a subset of the Initial Gaia Source List but this subset did not meet the isolation requirements and it contained a significant number of double entries. As a result

Star Names, Designations, and Catalogs

2021
If you have been an astronomer for any length of time, then you know there are many stars in the sky that have names. Some star names make perfect sense, such as Polaris, the North Star. In most cases, however, star names seem rather unusual and exotic.

Processing of Star Catalog and Star Image

2016
Processing of star catalog and star image is the groundwork for star identification. The Star sensor process establishes the three-axis attitude of spacecraft by observing and identifying stars. Thus, star information is indispensable. The star information used by the star sensor process mainly includes the positions (right ascension and declination ...

Optimization of guide star catalog for daytime star sensors

International Journal of Modern Physics B, 2019
Daytime star sensor provides accuracy navigation information to air vehicles near the ground in the daytime by observing stars. It has been an important development of modern star sensors. In order to achieve a high signal-to-noise ratio, daytime star sensors work in the infrared band to avoid interferences from sky background.

On the Carbon-Star Status of Five Stars in a New Carbon Star Catalog

Chinese Journal of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 2002
We find that five sources listed in the new carbon star catalog are not really carbon-rich objects but oxygen-rich stars, because they all have the prominent 10mum silicate features in absorption and the 1612 MHz OH maser emission or/and the SiO molecular features.

GSPC-II: A Catalog of Photometric Calibrators for the Second Generation Guide Star Catalog

Symposium - International Astronomical Union, 1997
The Guide Star photometric Catalog (GSPC-I; Lasker et al. 1988) is an all-sky set of photoelectrically determined BV sequences created to provide photometric calibrators for the Guide Star Catalog (Paper-I: Lasker et al. 1990, Paper-II: Russell et al. 1990, Paper-III: Jenkner et al. 1990).

Distribution of Points on a Sphere with Application to Star Catalogs

Journal of Guidance, Control, and Dynamics, 1998
A new framework is introduced to analyze the spatial distribution of stars in a catalog, namely the Voronoi diagram/Delaunay triangulation. The Voronoi diagram is a partition of the celestial sphere into polygonal cells, one for each star, so that the cell for star P consists of the region on the sphere closer to P than to any other star.

The Guide Star Catalog and related sky surveys

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1994
The basic properties and foundations of the Guide Star Catalog (GSC) are presented. Special emphasis is given to the published versions of the GSC, and the project on image compression and distribution of the digitized survey plate scans is mentioned.
